Subject: Weird stuff on the Cat... From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 03 Jul 01 - 08:02 PM Scrolled down the screen, and down the bottom I found this stuff - has it been here all the time and I've never noticed it, or is something strange happening here? :

Subject: RE: BS: Weird stuff on the Cat... From: Amos Date: 03 Jul 01 - 09:33 PM It's a bunch of parameters which determine what gets displayed to the particular client 213.104.72.16 (m16-mp1-cvx1b.col.ntl.com) which tell the web server how to assemble the page using which actions and to whom the result should be sent. This kind of code is like the brain-waves of the web-serve and was displayed by accident, kind of like the thoughts of the women in "What Do Women Want?" Dunno why it appeared that one time, but I wouldn't worry about it. A |
Subject: RE: BS: Weird stuff on the Cat... From: Bill D Date: 03 Jul 01 - 11:14 PM Max had to re-boot one machine tonight about that time |
Subject: RE: BS: Weird stuff on the Cat... From: Amos Date: 03 Jul 01 - 11:22 PM So some of the web-servers command register or buffer got trapped and included in the next lot of display chars to be sent out somehow or other. Kinda like an actor throwing his stage directions into his lines: "OUT!! OUT!! Brief candle... ...and reciting them with great feeling, all mixed together! A |
Subject: RE: BS: Weird stuff on the Cat... From: Mudlark Date: 04 Jul 01 - 01:01 AM Dear Amos. .. Great example...and it gave me a much needed laugh. thanks..., |
Subject: RE: BS: Weird stuff on the Cat... From: paddymac Date: 04 Jul 01 - 01:08 AM Well, I haven't done that on stage (yet) but have done it in read throughs - it really throws the others off their pace (kind of a fun leveler in that respect). |
Subject: RE: BS: Weird stuff on the Cat... From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 04 Jul 01 - 10:02 AM Until you gave that example I hadn't a clue what you were talking about, Amos. I'm slightly closer now, but not near. But it's a lovely example.
Wouldn't it be brilliant if someone could come up with an original working text of Shakespeare with all that sort of thing. About the only extant specimen I can think of is where it says "exit pursued by bear", which I think is in Coriolanus - I think by itself that indicates how the full stage text would have been great stuff.
Or imagine a poltical speech with all these bits included - "grin sheepishly...simpering smile...look upwards towards ceiling...raise right hand and place on chest...") |
Subject: RE: BS: Weird stuff on the Cat... From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 04 Jul 01 - 10:04 AM Actually I think it's a lot more likely to be in Cymbeline. Definitely not Coriolanus. |
Subject: RE: BS: Weird stuff on the Cat... From: Patrish(inactive) Date: 04 Jul 01 - 10:18 AM I think it was "The Winters Tale" |
Subject: RE: BS: Weird stuff on the Cat... From: Amos Date: 04 Jul 01 - 12:30 PM "Winter's Tale" it is...from an academin site: " A moment after the bear exits, the old Shepherd ruefully describes the activities of what we would now call adolescent males as "getting wenches with child, wronging the ancientry, stealing, fighting" (3.3.58-62). Jealousy, ship-wreck, and death by dismemberment are counterpointed by the grotesque--the bear--the humane--the Shepherd--and the confused rattling of the Clown. Regards, A |
Subject: RE: BS: Weird stuff on the Cat... From: GeorgeH Date: 04 Jul 01 - 01:08 PM which also contains that most famous of Shakespeare's stage directions, "Exunt, pursued by a bear" . . . Have any other stage directions made it into the "standard" collections of sayings, I wonder? (I'm sure some bright catter will now come up with countless other instances . .) G. |
Subject: RE: BS: Weird stuff on the Cat... From: The Walrus at work Date: 04 Jul 01 - 01:20 PM Doesn't "The Tempest" have "Enter mariners, wet"? I have visions of a grinning ASM with a bucket of water... Walrus |
