I did it, folks! I competed in clawhammer banjo and flatpick guitar. I took 3rd in both, for which I am very pleased!

I am most pleased that I was able to contain my nerves and focus on playing, and I played well for me. I think competing is good for that experience.

I am impressed by the encouragement I got from everyone. Mark Johnson judged clawhammer banjo and was especially encouraging. Watch for a thread about Mark!

Also appearing at the Washington state bluegrass championship was The Rarely Herd, Crossfire, Lonesome Ridge, and Misty River.

I was gone from home for 3 days which is a feat, considering my endlessly tolerant husband had our two special kids for that time. Blessings on tolerant spouses! Now that I've "come out" with my debut (trial by fire, if you ask me) I'm going to play at more Northwest venues. This time I'll let you know in advance :o)

a very excited Margo

Congratulations! I see I will soon have an excuse to get out to the northwest and ignore my relatives in that area - as I have in so many other sections of the conuntry. (gotta love relatives who let you come and crash with them - when you spend about 1 waking hour per day with them)

Rangeroger, It was in Chehalis Washington in Yardbirds mall. Are you familiar with the locale?

Great news, Margo! (like my uncle, who has Alzheimer's, said the last time we met: "I don't know you, but I'm sure I like you.")
What selections did you play?

Guest, I played Devil's dream and Banjo tramp on Clawhammer banjo. I wrote variations for both of those which I played. On guitar, I played The Rights of Man, and Planxty George Brabazon. (Not very bluegrass those two, but it doesn't seem to matter). Are you in the Northwest? Next time I'll let everyone know ahead of time. I guess I was chicken because it was my first time playing into a mike on stage.... Margo

Not in Northwest, but maybe you'll get an opportunity to do a Mudcat concert?

Congratulations, Margo - I am not new to the NW but have been away for a while, and am just learning about festivals in the area so please do give more information about upcoming events. It's sometimes frustrating to hear of festivals only afterward (although I have such an insane work schedule at the moment that I might not have been able to attend anyway).

blt, Where do you live? I'm in Vancouver, so most of my performing would be in the Portland area, unless I'm at a festival.... Margo
