Subject: RE: Eleanor Plunkett From: GUEST,Roger Date: 08 Jul 01 - 05:48 AM Jim you have been buzy, I did not even recognize the Hambly version as the same tune The recording I have is this one, no sound samples at their site unfortunately. |
Subject: RE: Eleanor Plunkett From: Jim Dixon Date: 07 Jul 01 - 12:25 PM Roger: Yes, Anne plays flute, too. And she's currently learning accordion. Meanwhile, I've spent the last 2 hours tracking down as many playable versions of Eleanor Plunkett as I could find on the 'net. I didn't bother linking to sites that only had MIDI files, sheet music, etc. Is this the golden age of music or what! To hear another version of Eleanor Plunkett done on harp and fiddle, go to Idlewild's web site. Their HTML seems to be a little screwed up, though. To get the tune to play, I had to click on the "#" in front of "Eleanor Plunkett." To hear a version on harp, go to Gráinne Hambly. Here's a version on hammered dulcimer by Cliff Moses. Here's a version by Clannad. Here's a sample on flute and autoharp by Karen Mueller. Here's a sample by the Amici Chamber Players, at Wal-Mart's site, no less! Here's a sample on harp and guitar by Joanna Mell. Here's a sample by (I think) a German group called Black Velvet Band. If I'm not mistaken, I hear a whistle, a guitar, a cello, and a string bass. Here's a rather pompous version on piano and (I think) 2 whistles by The London Lasses & Pete Quinn.

Subject: RE: Eleanor Plunkett From: Jim Dixon Date: 07 Jul 01 - 10:49 AM My wife, Anne Benson, is a member of the duo Amaryllis here in Minnesota (not to be confused with another duo in Britain by the same name). They play "Eleanor Plunkett" medleyed with "James Plunkett" on hammered dulcimer and guitar. To hear them, go to The Official Hammered Dulcimer Web Site. To hear a 0:36 sample, click on "Hear the Sample." To hear the full 3:30 cut, click on "Eleanor Plunkett/James Plunkett." Eleanor Plunkett is indeed a lovely tune, and it's interesting to compare different recordings. Would you call me biased if I said I prefer my wife's version? By the way, the e-mail address and web address given for Amaryllis are no longer active. Anne's e-mail address is now bensondixon@cs.com, and Amaryllis no longer has a web page. |
Subject: Eleanor Plunkett From: Roger in Sheffield Date: 07 Jul 01 - 08:44 AM While in the pub the other day I played this tune to a musician who had not heard it before. It is a short and sweet tune. I was going to request info. on the tune here, then searched and found the answers where you would expect contemplator |
