Subject: The Dixie-Bee Line From: GUEST,Denise Date: 08 Jul 01 - 11:34 PM Anyone know the lyrics to the old-time song, "The Dixie-Bee Line?" It's on an album by Bill Spence & Fennig's All-Stars, but I can't understand all of the words! It was also recorded by "Uncle" Dave Macon, but that search isn't turning up anything, either. (It starts out, "Well, some folks say that a Ford won't run, But just let me tell you what my 'Henry's' done...") Thanks... |

Subject: Lyr Add: THE DIXIE-BEE LINE (Uncle Dave Macon?) From: GUEST,Denise:^) Date: 10 Jul 01 - 02:42 PM THE DIXIE-BEE LINE (?-Uncle Dave Macon-?) 1. Well, some folks say that a Ford won't run. Just let me tell you what a Henry done. She left Louisville about half-past one And pulled into Nashville at the settin' of the sun. CHORUS: On the Dixie, on the Dixie-Bee Line, I'm gonna rise and shine, stay up to time. Rise and shine, I'm gonna stay up to time When I ride in that Henry of mine. 2. Henry Ford went to Muscle Shoals To bring to the people of the South pure gold. Let 'em have it and oh, my Lord, We'll all ride to heaven on a Henry Ford. CHORUS 3. Well, that old Buick certainly treated me mean. It took all my money for to buy gasoline. She may be warm but I don't know, But the Buick won't come when the Henry will go. CHORUS 4. I went to the mountain for to get some booze. The Henry Ford car was the one I choose. The officer got right on me I say, And I pulled right open and I made my getaway. CHORUS 5. Well, everybody knows that Henry Ford car Everybody knows they're the best there are You wanna take a ride just get in a Ford And step on the throttle and oh, my Lord. CHORUS dms |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Dixie-Bee Line From: GUEST,Gern Date: 10 Jul 01 - 05:09 PM I'll second that. Lots of great tunes by Uncle Dave-- this one is currently being done by Leroy Troy, who will be at Uncle Dave Macon Days in Mufreesboro, TN next week (I believe). Wish I could be there! Uncle Dave songs are notoriously difficult to decipher. I appreciate the effort to work this one out and post it. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Dixie-Bee Line From: GUEST,Denise:^) Date: 10 Jul 01 - 11:45 PM Yes; I was the one from Cyberpluckers! They came through, too--two people sent lyrics to me. I posted them here, because I'd found a much earlier thread about 'Uncle' Dave Macon songs, and "Dixie-Bee Line" was one that had been mentioned, but not ever sent in. I knew someone else had to be interested... --Denise:^) |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Dixie-Bee Line From: GUEST,Stevie J Date: 10 Dec 10 - 03:22 PM love the song!A Canadian couple does a wonderful job of it on their album ,Raged but right, down harmony road. They are Kathy and Arnie Naiman. They sing it clearly so you may hear all the lyrics. Also Arnie is rather renowned banjo picker with at least one instrumental album out. I am no banjo expert but I think he picks the traditional backless instrument, (non metallic strings?)anyway enjoy ! |
