Subject: The Poms from Oz From: Linda Kelly Date: 11 Jul 01 - 07:10 PM No this isn't another thread about cricket. Have just come back from Cottingham Folk Club singers night and heard a wonderful group from Townsville (Queensland?) called Poms from Oz . There surname is Pomeroy. They are in the country till September and I think they may be at Wakefield and Chorley. Anyway, they sing excellent 3 part harmony and they did a fantastic song by Bill Scott called Hey Rain. If you come across them give them a slot as they are definitely one to watch. |

Subject: RE: The Poms from Oz From: GUEST,chrisj Date: 14 Jul 01 - 03:33 AM I've heard the song done by various Australian singers(Jean Kirkpatrick?) and when you have been in FNQ when it rains you appreciate how evocative both the music and lyrics are. I'll be on the lookout for 'The Poms from Oz' when they return. |

Subject: RE: The Poms from Oz From: Bob Bolton Date: 14 Jul 01 - 08:43 AM G'day, GUEST, chrisj: You are right about that FNQ (Far North Queensland) rain. I was up at Kuranda the year they hosted the National Folk Festival (Easter 1991?) and the whole weekend had drizzly rain - with heavier patches. I made some wry comment about the weather, at the Kuranda paper shop and the girl there said "Well, it's always a wet Easter if there's been a 'dry' wet season." and I said "What do mean a 'dry' wet season? They had 40" of rain down in Tully a few months back!" She replied "That wasn't a wet season ... that was just a storm."! Hmmm ... I'm afraid us southerners (Sydney) don't know what really heavy rain is. Regards, Bob Bolton |

Subject: RE: The Poms from Oz From: clansfolk Date: 14 Jul 01 - 02:27 PM Saw them at Chorley - nice bunch - loved the "glowing" necklace!........
We were going to sing "Christmas in Australia" at the Sing around for them but a knackered banjo + alcohol and nicotine withdrawal (and hunger pangs) dragged us away........!!!!
see 'em if they come to a festival near you - they're "dam good" Pete |
