Subject: Mudcat Snug - Matinee Sessions for UK &c From: Lanfranc Date: 14 Jul 01 - 05:25 AM How about reinstituting PalTalk Snug sessions at an earlier hour again? I miss them, and so, apparently, do Hazel (NuttyM) and Noreen at least. Given a brief refresher course, I would happily open and act as moderator or co-moderator at around 2230 GMT on a night that was convenient for anyone that was interested. Open for discussion.

Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Snug - Matinee Sessions for UK &c From: Geoff the Duck Date: 14 Jul 01 - 05:55 AM We used to enjoy the sessions, but they got so late that we couldn't keep up to them, especially as the Twins are still regularly waking at 5 in the morning. We always thought it a shame that the UK contingent didn't seem to arrive until after 11.00pmGMT. If the day suited, we would try to join in. |

Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Snug - Matinee Sessions for UK &c From: John Routledge Date: 14 Jul 01 - 09:05 AM Thanks for the idea Alan. I think a regular but not necessarily too frequent "Snug" will get the singing rolling again. 22.30 GMT seems a good starting time. John |

Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Snug - Matinee Sessions for UK &c From: artbrooks Date: 14 Jul 01 - 01:03 PM Is that 1700 or 1600 Mudcat standard time? |

Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Snug - Matinee Sessions for UK &c From: Mrs.Duck Date: 14 Jul 01 - 01:21 PM I think 22.30 is far too late for the reasons above and would much prefer 9pm so we could have a couple of hours and still be fit the next day. That makes it around 16.00 EST |

Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Snug - Matinee Sessions for UK &c From: John Routledge Date: 14 Jul 01 - 06:58 PM Having just finished listening to Woody Guthrie Show on Paltalk now inclining to Mrs Duck. Would not really want to start a singing session now - for what that is worth.:0) John |

Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Snug - Matinee Sessions for UK &c From: Liz the Squeak Date: 15 Jul 01 - 12:51 AM YEAH Whoooohooooo!!! Go for it!!! I would even prefer they were at 8.00pm GMT, but I appreciate that not everyone is as sad as I am and might actually have a life before the watershed.... Make it a regular thing and people might start logging in earlier..... LTS |

Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Snug - Matinee Sessions for UK &c From: katlaughing Date: 15 Jul 01 - 01:02 AM Ian B, they are virtual song circles, where we take turns singing/playing tunes to one another across cyberdom. All you need is a soundcard and a microphone, if you wnat to join in, plus you will need to download the free software at WWW.PALTALK.COM. The Mudcat Snug is a closed session, in that the general public cannot "wander" in unless they've come here and seen that the password is "dt" which stands for the DigiTrad database where all of the song lyrics are stored here at the Mudcat. If you have a look at the Mudcat Newcomer's Guide, I think there is some info in there, too, or just holler, one of us will help. Welcome to the Mudcat! kat |

Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Snug - Matinee Sessions for UK &c From: Mrs.Duck Date: 15 Jul 01 - 10:00 AM I could go with that too Liz although I am often involved in school work until after 9 but since a lot of that is done at the computer I see no reason why I shouldn't be able to sing and listen too! |

Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Snug - Matinee Sessions for UK &c From: bigchuck Date: 15 Jul 01 - 10:24 AM If the 10 people limit gets to be a problem, the concert room is available. Noreen has the admin code for it, as does Jacko, I believe. It has worked well when I've had song circles going in it. Sandy |

Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Snug - Matinee Sessions for UK &c From: Susan of DT Date: 15 Jul 01 - 03:14 PM Can we have some sort of tentative schedule so we will all know when to look for it? I have been missing paltalk lately. When it was active I got in more singing practice, which was definately helping my rather shaky singing quality. 2200 Greenwich Mean Time would be 1700 Eastern/Mudcat time? I'll join you when I can, probably closer to 2300 GMT. |

Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Snug - Matinee Sessions for UK &c From: Lanfranc Date: 15 Jul 01 - 06:01 PM OK, folks, here's a positive scheduling suggestion. First session this Thursday, 19th July, starting at 2100 GMT (1600 EST/MST [Mudcat Standard Time]) I'll be around for at least the first couple of hours, but I have to drive to Derby the next morning to demonstrate a computer system. The Derby RAM? Anyone in favour?

Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Snug - Matinee Sessions for UK &c From: AllisonA(Animaterra) Date: 15 Jul 01 - 08:15 PM I might be able to tune in for a little while as well! If I can unzip or otherwise figure out how to get to Paltalk now that I've downloaded it... |

Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Snug - Matinee Sessions for UK &c From: Jon Freeman Date: 15 Jul 01 - 08:19 PM Animetarra, the Paltalk download is a self-exctracting/self-installing EXE file. All you should have to do is double click the icon (unless like me, you have Widnows set for single clicks)/ open the program to install it. Jon |

But isn't that a lovely phrase to slip in when introducing a song at a really traditional folk club: 'I learned this one from a virtual song circle...' Thanks, and all the best - Ian |
