I was at L'Orient last year and didn't enjoy it - very big and commercial. But just about everywhere you will find "Fest Noz" at weekends, small festivals with everyone dancing in the park, very nice. Look for posters plus ask at tourist offices, & ask around generally. There are web sites about festivals in Brittany ... I might get back to you with URLs, or you can try your own search.
I seem to recall there used to be a festival in Quimper. Any one know of it?

http://www.bretagne-sud.com/ has a very short list of Fest Noz (under which it includes the huge Lorient!)as well as a listing for fetes. That just for the south of Brittany of course; which part are you going to?

There may also be listings in the newspaper http://www.bretagne-online.com/

another general site which you can search for listings is http://www.breizhoo.fr
but a lot of small local events which are so enjoyable would not be listed on the web

The above were cut and pasted from my bookmarks. We are heading to a similar region, and were looking up information. I haven't had time to read them yet, but there might be something useful!
Quack!

Official Ouimper Festival Site (in French)
This will give you the full programme for the festival which starts on Saturday 21st July and ends on Sunday 29th. We will be in Brittany from 21st for 2 weeks staying near Morlaix and will certainly be getting to the festival for at least one day but until we get there we don't know which day. Would have no objection to meeting up with anyone who knows they are going but once we leave here we will be out of reach of a computer.

Anyone who is coming to Brittany and wants to come to our session which is every Tuesday at the Barenton Bar which is in the church square in the Town of Mauron just at the top of Morbihan, near to the Paimpont Forest, bring your instruments. A bien Tôt Kara

It's Tuesday just back from The Session; These Bretons are not really used to this sort of thing, but I think they are starting to get the hang of it. A fair few in tonight, maybe mare next week

A bien tôt Kara

Must be a popular place - we are on the Brittany/Normandy border near St Hilaire for 2 weeks from Aug 5th. Recall the Festival de St Loup at Guincamp but think that's mid August.

Can't see how to do those damn links anywhere on the site. Here goes, I'll just type it :

http://www.bretagne.com/

Probably all in French - but supposed to be stuffed with links

Any of those people who're always linking to the instructions on links, feel free to remind me again

And while youse are at it - getting fadas/accents etc. ...

www.antourtan.org hosts cyber-fest noz. They also give information of other cites where you can learn about festivals and/or hear Breton music. This is from the laters antouran bulletin. If you use audial you might enjoy some of the websites even if you don't understand French.
