Subject: RE: What's the weather like where you are? From: gillymor Date: 23 Aug 24 - 03:35 PM The monsoon is in full swing here in SWFL. It's raining so hard right now that the gutters can't keep up with the down pour. I had to walk through a waterfall to get in my building and the parts of me outside of my rain jacket are soaked. |
Subject: RE: What's the weather like where you are? From: Neil D Date: 20 Aug 24 - 02:20 AM SRS, I think some of your politicians brought that heat with them when they emerged from the Netherworld. |
Subject: RE: What's the weather like where you are? From: Stilly River Sage Date: 19 Aug 24 - 01:00 PM The heat from Texas hasn't leaked out to warm you two? I wish! We've been under heat advisories for a while, though these days aren't as hot as they were for the last couple of years. |
Subject: RE: What's the weather like where you are? From: Neil D Date: 19 Aug 24 - 12:29 PM keberoxu, We're having the same thing here in Ohio, USA. It's 12:24 in the afternoon and it's only 66 degrees F, I believe that's 19 C. That's nearly 20 degrees below normal. It's quite blustery as well. |
Subject: RE: What's the weather like where you are? From: keberoxu Date: 18 Aug 24 - 02:50 PM Heavy rains and chilly nights now. |
Subject: RE: What's the weather like where you are? From: keberoxu Date: 15 Aug 24 - 11:39 AM Unusually cool temperatures for August, of all months. The days are pleasant, and the nights are downright chilly, most unusual. |
Subject: RE: What's the weather like where you are? From: keberoxu Date: 10 Aug 24 - 02:45 PM Now that the big storm last night has cleared out to sea, we have brilliant blue-sky sunshine with puffy white clouds, and lowered humidity -- could not be more lovely. |
Subject: RE: What's the weather like where you are? From: keberoxu Date: 08 Aug 24 - 03:24 PM What's left of Hurricane Debby has crept up the Mid-Atlantic seaboard and is bringing a steady soaking rain to my part of Massachusetts. There are flood warnings out. |
Subject: RE: What's the weather like where you are? From: keberoxu Date: 07 Aug 24 - 08:15 AM Finally, a steady, soaking rain, not like the violent cloudbursts of the previous week. This rain will benefit the farmers hereabouts, who have been lamenting the lack of rain for their crops. |
Subject: RE: What's the weather like where you are? From: keberoxu Date: 03 Aug 24 - 01:08 PM it's hot, hot, and hot ... |
Subject: RE: What's the weather like where you are? From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 31 Jul 24 - 06:22 PM I was buying groceries & had trouble getting the correct note out of my wallet event tho I'd been in the supermarket for a while! My hands were still frozen (Harbour City version of frozen!) sandra latest temperature reading 8am, 20 mins ago - 9.2C feels like 4.0 |
Subject: RE: What's the weather like where you are? From: Charmion Date: 31 Jul 24 - 04:31 PM Sandra, your 12.7°C is a very damp 12.7°C, and I bet you feel it in your bones. I spent a few winters in Nova Scotia, and I remember the misery. Halifax in November was downright purgatorial. |
Subject: RE: What's the weather like where you are? From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 30 Jul 24 - 09:01 PM here on the eastern side of the land of Oz we're going thru a cold snap! Thermometers show low temperatures, but the "feels like" factor means it's colder! I live in a wind tunnel street where winds rush up the hill, past the 2 skyscrapers at the start of my street & howl along. Our front door does not always close! Sometimes pulling it shut is a fierce battle between me & the wind, but I make sure I win. 2 days ago I went out around 4pm into the wind, wearing my thick down jacket normally only worm when I head south to festivals in winter, underneath I was wearing 2 (Sydney) thermal wool skivvies & my thick Scottish-made jumper, the temperature was 12.7C feels like 4.7 (54F feels like 40F) Those who live in snowy climates might think that's summer, but here in the Harbour City it's cold! I live a 10 min stroll from the Harbour, but can't see it. |
Subject: RE: What's the weather like where you are? From: Charmion Date: 30 Jul 24 - 01:52 PM And now it's raining stair-rods in Stratford. The cloud cover is so dense I have to turn the lights on in the kitchen to wash the dishes. |
Subject: RE: What's the weather like where you are? From: Charmion Date: 29 Jul 24 - 02:50 PM Hot and steamy in Perth County, Ontario, with thunderstorms in the forecast for tomorrow or the day after. That's no surprise, however. In these parts, hardly a week goes by without a couple of storm cells blowing east from the lakes. |
Subject: RE: What's the weather like where you are? From: keberoxu Date: 28 Jul 24 - 07:20 PM Well, we still have the month of August ahead of us, which usually means hot muggy weather. At the moment, though, the weather is mild for the summer, not too hot and the humidity is tolerable, it's pleasant outside. Probably too good to last, though. There are to be thunderstorms coming mid-week. |
Subject: RE: What's the weather like where you are? From: keberoxu Date: 24 Jul 24 - 07:42 PM It's ever so muggy around here. More clouds than rain. |
Subject: RE: What's the weather like where you are? From: Neil D Date: 21 Jul 24 - 06:08 AM Normally it's sweltering in mid-July around here. (Ohio, USA) But this summer it's more likely to be 70s at high noon dropping to high 50s at night, great sleeping weather. These temps or more like September than July, but quite pleasant. |
Subject: RE: What's the weather like where you are? From: JennieG Date: 16 Jul 24 - 06:53 AM Well, it's freakin' cold. Today's temperature only just scraped into double figures - that's Celsius double figures - and the 'feels like' barely made it to four degrees. More of the same tomorrow. Ah well, it is winter after all, and the third week of July is historically the coldest week of the whole year in Oz. |
Subject: RE: What's the weather like where you are? From: keberoxu Date: 15 Jul 24 - 07:17 PM More of those hit-or-miss cloudbursts forming with the higher-than-usual heat. |
Subject: RE: What's the weather like where you are? From: keberoxu Date: 13 Jul 24 - 03:39 PM The remnants of Hurricane Beryl missed my area, but they scooted to the north, to Vermont, where catastrophic flooding took place (think, inches of mud filling homes). Anyone else affected by Hurricane/Tropical Storm Beryl? |
Subject: RE: What's the weather like where you are? From: keberoxu Date: 10 Jul 24 - 06:27 PM The cloudbursts today were something else. Sheets of rain for ten minutes, and then poof, all over, and the sun came back out. Didn't cool things down, though, it was as hot and sticky as ever. |
Subject: RE: What's the weather like where you are? From: keberoxu Date: 05 Jul 24 - 03:58 PM Cloudbursts: rain really hard, then suddenly stops, then starts again. |
Subject: RE: What's the weather like where you are? From: Neil D Date: 04 Jul 24 - 10:20 AM Beautiful! |
Subject: RE: What's the weather like where you are? From: keberoxu Date: 02 Jul 24 - 05:09 PM Enjoying moderate and dry summer weather, nice while it lasts, but of course it won't last -- the thunderstorms will return. |
Subject: RE: What's the weather like where you are? From: keberoxu Date: 29 Jun 24 - 09:18 AM Raining, and cool even for June. |
Subject: RE: What's the weather like where you are? From: keberoxu Date: 27 Jun 24 - 11:35 AM Enjoying a spell of mild (cooler) weather after the recent heat wave. |
Subject: RE: What's the weather like where you are? From: Bill D Date: 23 Jun 24 - 09:32 AM I just posted this on Facebook... I take the current close-to-100F weather with these memories in mind. In July of 1954, my mother & I got on a train in 111F in Wichita, KS to go visit her brother in San Diego. We spent a nice week or so in balmy 78F, then went home and got off to 109F... ooof! I have delivered newspapers in 102+. The record in Wichita was 113 that year. |
Subject: RE: What's the weather like where you are? From: keberoxu Date: 21 Jun 24 - 03:10 PM The heat wave is bringing thundershowers now; last night we had a dense cloudburst, but it was gone shortly. |
Subject: RE: What's the weather like where you are? From: gillymor Date: 20 Jun 24 - 10:09 AM Steamy and hot in SW FL, high of 90, 88% humidity and a good chance of afternoon showers. The rainy season may be upon us. |
Subject: RE: What's the weather like where you are? From: Charmion's brother Andrew Date: 20 Jun 24 - 09:38 AM About 200 Km north of Charmion's rural town, we in Ottawa have a forecast of 31°C. People who put store in "Humidex" calculations say it will feel like 41°C in the early afternoon. Chalk it up to the urban heat island effect. |
Subject: RE: What's the weather like where you are? From: Charmion Date: 20 Jun 24 - 08:54 AM Forecast high of 32°C in Perth County, Ontario, with high probability of loud, violent thunderstorms. What’s life without a little drama? |

Subject: RE: What's the weather like where you are? From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 16 Jun 24 - 11:59 AM cold! Sydney CBD temperature at 1.30am Monday morning & I'm close to Sydney CBD & the official temperature is 9.2C (= 48F) feels like 2.7 (= 36F) I don't have a heater (I put on more clothes!) & keep my windows locked open 6" (I like fresh air) & well covered but am still cold. thermal leggings, & thick track pants, long sleeve thermal t-shirt & long sleeved cotton t-shirt, fleece waistcoat, & this New Zealand merino & possum cardigan (very cosy) with a thick pure wool cardigan my mum knitted in 1988 above that! I also have a jacket draped over my legs. I'm sure if I had a heater blazing away I could be swanning about in thin summer gear like a friend I remember from years back! Anyway, my electricity bill was much lower then hers then ... & still is below the average 1-person household. sandra (heading off to bed) |
Subject: RE: What's the weather like where you are? From: Stilly River Sage Date: 16 Jun 24 - 11:25 AM Hot. And for now, still quite humid. Ugg. |
Subject: RE: What's the weather like where you are? From: keberoxu Date: 16 Jun 24 - 10:48 AM Getting ready for a hot spell, hot enough for late July, and this is only mid-June. |
Subject: RE: What's the weather like where you are? From: gillymor Date: 13 Jun 24 - 06:37 AM Two straight days of rain have filled the bordering cypress strand with water, sparking a thunderous amphibian chorus with counterpoint provided by the chirping of young gators. |
Subject: RE: What's the weather like where you are? From: keberoxu Date: 10 Jun 24 - 01:21 PM A cool spell is underway, won't last long. OF course the heat is turned off now. At night my bedroom goes down to 63 degrees F., which for me is cool. I slept last night with my clothes on under the covers with an extra blanket. Soon it will be warm again, and the refrigerated air will be welcome, but not right now. |
Subject: RE: What's the weather like where you are? From: Jack Campin Date: 07 Jun 24 - 12:10 AM South Germany has just had widespread flooding and Washington State is getting inundated by atmospheric rivers. No reports here? |
Subject: RE: What's the weather like where you are? From: keberoxu Date: 06 Jun 24 - 06:40 PM Finally we are getting rain. This after several days straight of yellow-green pollen covering everything and flaring up everyone's allergies. |
Subject: RE: What's the weather like where you are? From: keberoxu Date: 18 May 24 - 07:23 PM It's darned near perfect: sunny and clear, with a breeze to keep the gnats away, and not so warm as to be uncomfortably hot. |
Subject: RE: What's the weather like where you are? From: keberoxu Date: 14 May 24 - 02:35 PM ... and today is more like a day in June, sunny enough to be hot. |
Subject: RE: What's the weather like where you are? From: keberoxu Date: 09 May 24 - 03:49 PM Today it is every bit as the poet Heinrich Heine wrote of "der wunderschoenen Monat Mai." |
Subject: RE: What's the weather like where you are? From: Stilly River Sage Date: 05 May 24 - 12:06 PM The spring has been wet here. That happened last year, then we had the hottest summer on record. I fear we may be in for a repeat. |
Subject: RE: What's the weather like where you are? From: keberoxu Date: 05 May 24 - 11:32 AM We have spring rain, so more mud as well. |
Subject: RE: What's the weather like where you are? From: keberoxu Date: 04 May 24 - 02:04 PM Leeneia, I believe Missouri is one of the states up for a brood of periodic cicadas this summer. |
Subject: RE: What's the weather like where you are? From: leeneia Date: 04 May 24 - 12:26 AM Three states near me, Oklahoma, Nebraska and Iowa, suffered the worst tornado outbreak in history last Friday, one week ago. 63 tornadoes occurred, although all of those I have heard of have been rather small - EF 3's. One 4, I believe. Not that an EF3 isn't dangerous. Most of the damage occurred to small towns with working-class houses which were simply smashed to smithereens. Pick-up trucks were tossed about. I believe there were no deaths, wonderfully enough. Where I live there were thunderstorms and one tornado watch, but most of Missouri was spared. We had a simply beautiful day today, and the DH and I went out when the sun had weakened (5 pm) and planted tomatoes and herbs. |

Subject: RE: What's the weather like where you are? From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 30 Apr 24 - 08:06 AM end of season is the same the world over! I headed out to buy the paper today & got drenched coming back, but my raincoat & big brolly kept most of me dry! My sandals have been sitting next to the hot water boiler & are probably dry by now, I must retrieve them. |
