We've had some single degree (F) days. Today I stopped in at the grocery for a paper but I didn't buy greens because they'd freeze in the car inside of a few minutes.

Our white Thanksgiving is a modest coating, not melting because it is so cold.
Other parts of the country, around the snow belt in the Great Lakes,
have gotten snow measured, not in inches, but in feet.

Storm Bert is trying his best to hit us at the mo but he is not too bad. Good carpet of snow earlier but now raining and much warmer. The snow will have cleared later.

By the time the rain started here,
we already had a wildfire on the side of a nearby mountain,
now mostly contained.
The rain won't last that long, but
it will usher in colder weather soon.
IT would be better for the prevailing drought if
we had mild temperatures and more rain, but that is how it is.

Rain and wet snow in higher elevations -- not at the moment,
but headed this way before the end of the week.
The precipitation is needed to lower the threat of wildfires.

Our big problem here is the dryness of the weather.
We have red flag warnings in effect to warn of
the danger of fires, as in brush fires.
The little bits of rain we have gotten,
simply were not enough to make up for the dry periods at this point.

The seasonal autumn temperatures have returned,
although we have a red flag warning because of danger of fires,
as there has been no rain and everything is very dry.

The mornings are low 20s. Tops out about 40. We are due for a couple days of snow before Halloween.
The black Lab I play with most days before lunch doesn't know what cold is. She doesn't know the difference between uphill and downhill. She looks straight into my eyes and waits for me to kick the Chuck-it ball. I try to kick it high off the ground because she loves to jump nose up after it like a seal after a fish. The Chuck-it ball is 9" across and has grooes sewn into it specially for a dog to be able to get their teeth onto. Nooka gets her purchase on the ball and will come after me and get a little head action into a return toss to me. That is my best chance to kick it over or around her. Otherwise she will block my groundball like an expert goalie. Her owner is concerned that she has started rolling on the ground, but I have not seen her roll IN anything, so I think she is expressing happiness at simply being there. It is obvious that she is a happy dog

As I type this I have National Public Radio on. Earlier in the Summer, The Moth Radio Hour had a session for Alaskans, and some of the participants are being broadcast right now, and they are good and- mostly- funny.

A friend told me that we're going to get 7" of snow which did not cheer me up very much. But her dog will be ecstatic.

October 25 and we're still in the high-80s, low-90s every day. About six weeks since our last rain. Supposedly it will rain on Halloween - looking forward to it.

Two days of sunlight, after too much rain. The setting sun lit up one of the trees on our green just now, and it was gloriously golden; for once, and just for a moment, I could comprehend some of what non-colour-deficient people delight in when the leaves turn autumnal.

Finally cooling into the mid-90s this week in North Texas. Rain forecast over the holiday itself - fine with me! I grew up in the Pacific NW where school always used to start right around Labor Day. Down here in Texas it starts mid-August, though in some hot years they've delayed it a couple of weeks so they didn't have to spend so much money on the air conditioning in all of those schools. (Texas doesn't waste spend money on air conditioning in prisons either. There are lots of court cases to do with cruel and unusual punishment because of illness and deaths in prisons due to the heat.)

It's the start of the August Bank Holiday weekend, so, following longstanding tradition, the skies are positively relieving themselves. We *may* get sun on Monday, but the Met Office has been wrong before; all these expensive computers they use permit them to get it wrong at much greater precision.

The monsoon is in full swing here in SWFL. It's raining so hard right now that the gutters can't keep up with the down pour. I had to walk through a waterfall to get in my building and the parts of me outside of my rain jacket are soaked.

keberoxu, We're having the same thing here in Ohio, USA. It's 12:24 in the afternoon and it's only 66 degrees F, I believe that's 19 C. That's nearly 20 degrees below normal. It's quite blustery as well.
