Subject: RE: Lyr Req/Add: God Bless The Postman / Bless Us All From: GUEST,womba Date: 12 May 19 - 12:03 AM I recall from the 1950s a great harmonic rendering of this prayer which I was able to track down after I learned the title from this thread. It is by the Four Lads: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ol4EH9F2tI8 |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req/Add: God Bless The Postman / Bless Us All From: GUEST Date: 10 Feb 19 - 12:53 AM You've left out the opening part where Mom sings: "Time to say your prayers, dear, someone's listening up above. Time to ask the Lord to bless everyone you love ..." Then the child responds with God bless the postman ... |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req/Add: God Bless The Postman / Bless Us All From: GUEST,guest Date: 16 Jan 14 - 11:09 AM To be somewhat corny...I have had this song running through my head every once in a while for the longest time and finally remembered to look for it today. I'm 68 and remember falling in love with Nancy Rogerman at Hanstein Elementary School in the eastside of Detroit MI after hearing her sing this song at several school assemblies and talent shows! What a beautiful voice she had and what a lovely song. I only remembered the first couple verses and snippets of the others. Thanks to all for putting the whole song together. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req/Add: God Bless The Postman / Bless Us All From: GUEST Date: 18 Aug 13 - 04:11 PM Found this on the www: "God Bless Us All" was by Bobby Dixon. It was, indeed, on the Peter Pan label...on a black vinyl 78 RPM record. It was released in 1953." |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req/Add: God Bless The Postman / Bless Us All From: GUEST Date: 18 Aug 13 - 02:19 PM I need to do a P.S. and correct myself. The singer of the song was a redheaded kid named Jimmy Boyd, not Jimmy Dean. JIMMY BOYD. He then recorded I SAW MOMMIE KISSING SANTA CLAUS. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req/Add: God Bless The Postman / Bless Us All From: GUEST,nancyLL Date: 18 Aug 13 - 02:16 PM The singer of that song was a redheaded kid named Jimmy Dean. Not the sausage Jimmy Dean, but another, and I can't find out anything about him. When I was a kid I used to sing that song all the time, even with accompaniment, and I loved it. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req/Add: God Bless The Postman / Bless Us All From: GUEST Date: 24 Jul 13 - 07:35 AM I have thought of this song for years and asked many others if they remembered it-never found anyone who did. What a delight to find it today. For some reason I always remembered it as God Bless the Men I love-God bless them all. Guess I was remembering incorrectly. Now to Google Miss Ding Dong School (or was it Bell) |

Subject: RE: Req/ADD: God Bless The Postman / Bless Us All From: GUEST,Susan in NM Date: 21 Mar 11 - 10:43 AM I was looking for the words to this song and found this thread. I have a 33 1/3 rpm record from Peter Pan Records with this song on it. Right now I cannot use my record player but can remember the tune. The name of the record is Children's Songs of Reverence. Apparently it is performed by the Peter Pan Orchestra and Chorus. It has these songs on it - Lord's Prayer, Jesus Loves Me, Angels in the Sky, Savior Teach Me Day by Day, Rock of Ages, Jesus Tender Shepherd Hear Me, He, Stand Up Stand Up for Jesus, God Bless Us All, Onward Christian Soldiers, Because, and Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep. I can't find a recording date. I loved this record as a child. |
Subject: RE: Req/ADD: God Bless The Postman / Bless Us All From: Joe Offer Date: 24 Aug 10 - 11:51 PM Well, I wasn't able to find sheet music, but it appears to me that the Brucie Weil record is the earliest, and most likely to be the definitive version of the song. The "mommy" has a two-line introduction to the song on the Weil record - I admit I left that out. -Joe- |
Subject: Lyr Add: GOD BLESS US ALL (from Jimmy Boyd) From: wysiwyg Date: 24 Aug 10 - 10:07 AM Thanks! Another great song we can do in our Sat. Night service. Joe, why'd you leave out the choral passage in the Boyd recording? === God bless the postman, who brings the mail. And bless the cowboys, out on the trail. Bless the man who waves to me, when the train goes by. Bless all the pilots, riding through the sky.
Bless every spaceman, on my TV set. |
Subject: ADD: God Bless Us All From: Joe Offer Date: 24 Aug 10 - 02:41 AM Here's a little more, maybe the whole thing: GOD BLESS US ALL (lyrics by Tom Murray, music by Tony Burrello) God bless the postman, who brings the mail. And bless the cowboys, out on the trail. Bless the man who waves to me, when the train goes by. Bless all the pilots, riding through the sky.
Bless every spaceman, on my TV set.
[instrumental break]
(Mom's voiceover, speaking) "Anyone else, Darling?"
Bless Mommy and bless Daddy, who come each time I call. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: God Bless The Postman... From: GUEST,ron in oregon Date: 23 Aug 10 - 11:47 PM My mom always called it the Postman Song. And now that I'm the father of a beautiful little girl, I find myself wanting to sing it to her, and while the melody never left me (either), I was so happy to find this thread. Thanks everyone and God bless. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: God Bless The Postman... From: Bob the Postman Date: 08 Jan 09 - 07:48 AM God bless me everyone. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: God Bless The Postman... From: KT Date: 08 Jan 09 - 05:55 AM oops....Make that "he came from a line of tugboats fine and brave. But it seems that Little Toot, he just didn't give a hoot. Though he tried to be good, he just could not behave." |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: God Bless The Postman... From: KT Date: 08 Jan 09 - 05:50 AM Hi Susan. Here we go again...."Little Toot was just a tug....just a happy little tug, and he came from a line of tugboats fine and gay! But it seems that Little Toot, he just didn't giver a hoot...." Yep! It was in the same box of old records and another favorite of the kids in my family back then. I live on the water now and see lots of tugs on a regular basis. Guess what song runs through my head when I do? kt |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: God Bless The Postman... From: GUEST,Susan in CA Date: 08 Jan 09 - 02:48 AM I just had this song pop into my head today and thought about googling it. I can't believe I found all these others looking for it too! My mom taught it to me when I was a child and then got the record. Thanks all of you for filling in the blanks that I had. Anyone remember Little Toot the tugboat? Maybe it was being with my grandkids this holiday that brought it back. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: God Bless The Postman... From: GUEST,KT Date: 19 Jul 01 - 11:06 AM Yes, it's a tune and a song I always loved when I was little. It was the first one I would reach for when we pulled out the old box of kiddie records. In your searching, you might want to try "God Bless Us All." I think that may be the real title. Your grandkids are lucky to have you! KT |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: God Bless The Postman... From: Jukebox Date: 19 Jul 01 - 09:56 AM I think you've got it! I remember the mother saying that. The melody has never left me. Now that I have the words, I can sing it to my grandkids. I may be wrong about the artist. I tried looking up Bobby as well. Thanks, KT |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: God Bless The Postman... From: KT Date: 18 Jul 01 - 01:21 PM Okay, jukebox. After the servicemen, it's, please don't forget, bless the circus acrobats, and never let them fall. God bless the folks I love, God bless them all.
Then I think there is an instrumental break, (which quite conveniently explains why neither of us can remember lyrics here), and then the mom's voice comes in and says, "Anyone else dear?" Then he goes into I looked for tyou on some of the Bobby Driscoll websites, but couldn't find it. I'll let you know if I do. KT

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: God Bless The Postman... From: Jukebox Date: 18 Jul 01 - 12:03 AM Oh, by the way...I wore out many needles on my little record player listening to that record and others. We're talking about 45-50 years ago! Yikes! |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: God Bless The Postman... From: Jukebox Date: 17 Jul 01 - 11:59 PM Thanks so much KT! I think the second verse goes: "Bless all the spacemen on my tv set And bless the servicemen...please don't forget." I had a red plastic 78 speed recording of this, but it got lost through the years. I would give a pretty penny to get a copy somewhere, but can't imagine where to begin looking. Thanks again for your help. -Jukebox |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: God Bless The Postman... From: KT Date: 16 Jul 01 - 03:33 PM Oops! That circus acrobat line does not belong there. I think it's part of a second verse. The line that gets me is "bless every space man on my TV set." Tells you how old that song is! Have fun with it! KT

Subject: God Bless The Postman... From: Jukebox Date: 15 Jul 01 - 01:13 PM As a kid I had a children's 78 speed recording of a song that went something like this:
God bless the postman who brings the mail I think it might have been by Bobby Driscoll or some child singer. I have the melody in my head, but would like to find all the correct words. Can anyone help? |
