Subject: How many mudcatters are receptionists? From: Louisa Date: 18 Jul 01 - 07:33 AM I realise I might get some flack for this, but I was wondering if anybody else out there is sitting at a desk at the front of an office block smiling at people as they walk past and dealing with inane queries? Of course the plus side is that with no actual work to do, I have the whole day to mess about on the net and research my MA, being a receptionist not being my main activity or career ambition in life, but a temporary money-earning venture. Last week I wrote a university essay while I was sat here - and got paid too. It's quite a jammy job really. Nail file, anyone? Louisa

Subject: RE: How many mudcatters are receptionists? From: Jim Cheydi Date: 18 Jul 01 - 08:03 AM Work tends to go in fits and starts. It'll be mental for a fortnight, then I'll have nothing to do for a week. I work for a firm of international tax consultants, sometimes in the UK, sometimes in the US. Sorting out immigration and payrolls for foreigners working in the US, or US citizens working abroad. I've had worse jobs. |

Subject: RE: How many mudcatters are receptionists? From: Matt Woodbury/Mimosa Date: 18 Jul 01 - 11:30 AM Receptionist for and office of 7, with almost no walk ins. I'm also the internet search specialist. Without Mudcat, I'd go loopy. Today I'm making fringe on a homemade sarong, while I wait for the phone to ring. I used to think receptionists were supposed to be women with lots of makeup who read romance novels and did their nails over and over. What a life! I get to research music when I'm not answering phones. Mimosa |
Subject: RE: How many mudcatters are receptionists? From: MMario Date: 18 Jul 01 - 11:36 AM telephone computer support - not a receptionist but spend a lot of time acting as a switchboard as our clients HATE using the computerized "phone tree". so much easier for them to just call someone they know and ask to be tranferred |
Subject: RE: How many mudcatters are receptionists? From: Louisa Date: 18 Jul 01 - 11:56 AM Fantastic stuff. Not sure how they would react if I brought the fiddle in. Although I could go and play it in the cupboard behind my desk. I'm quite exposed really, as half the building is glass. When it's gets hot it feels like I'm in a greenhouse, the rest of the time it's more being in a goldfish bowl. Definitely would go loopy without mudcat. Louisa |

Subject: RE: How many mudcatters are receptionists? From: Kim C Date: 18 Jul 01 - 12:36 PM Have been a receptionist, now a glorified office assistant. Like others, not constantly busy. However, we have just got our server up after a crash two weeks ago, so I do have something I must go do. See ya! |
Subject: RE: How many mudcatters are receptionists? From: JennieG Date: 19 Jul 01 - 01:33 AM Was a receptionist for 6 months until 3 weeks ago when I left (by choice, now I'm unemployed but looking, long story). But someone at the firm I worked for didn't call it a Receptionist position; she called it the Director of First Impressions! Cheers JennieG who now has more time to play music than when she was working...... |
