Subject: RE: Help with Lyr Req: & Singer From: pattyClink Date: 20 Jul 01 - 02:33 PM So you need to know if the lyrics are correct, and who recorded the song? Just wanted to refresh the thread, the lyrics sound like it's a good song. Any gurus think the thread title could use patching to draw in people who know the song? I've never heard it, but would like to. I do hang out in Mississippi, though, and going from Jax to Memph via BR would be a fruitless loop. Maybe it was 'rode my thumb FROM Baton Rouge'? |

Title: JUST A COUNTRY ROAD FROM YOU |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Thirty Miles from Memphis From: GUEST Date: 27 Mar 13 - 02:44 PM has anyone ever found the artist to this song? I remember when the song came out in the early 80's. I knew it was a hit. I only heard it a few times and never knew who sang it. Any help? Thanks, Bones. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Thirty Miles from Memphis From: GUEST,Harold Date: 15 May 13 - 06:08 AM Just ran across your request. I contacted Jim Zerface co-writer of the song and he didn't know the artist either. The folks at BMI doesn't have the name of the artist either. I also remember the song from the early 80s. I couldn't find the record though. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Thirty Miles from Memphis From: Jim Dixon Date: 15 May 13 - 12:53 PM AllMusic.com says a song titled 30 MILES FROM MEMPHIS was composed and recorded by Rick Crane, and appears on his album "Stretch" (2003). However, a sound sample provided at Amazon.com shows that it's not the same song. By the way, I also found: MILES FROM MEMPHIS, recorded by Mikey Bowers on "Dead Yesterdays" (2011) MILES TO MEMPHIS, recorded by Chris Knight on "Heart of Stone" (2008) SEVEN MILES TO MEMPHIS, recorded by Mark Stuart and the Bastard Sons on "Bend in the Road" (2009) 8 MILES FROM MEMPHIS, recorded by The Grid on "Doppelganger (Bonus Editions)" (2008) 17 MILES TO MEMPHIS, recorded by Flying Accusations on "Now Arriving...." (2007) 18 MILES FROM MEMPHIS, recorded by Buzz Campbell & Hot Rod Lincoln, on "Runaway Girl" (2006) EIGHTEEN MILES FROM MEMPHIS, recorded by The Razorbacks on "I'm on Fire" (1993) 18 MILES TO MEMPHIS, recorded by Stray Cats on several albums. 72 MILES, recorded by Ernest Lane on "72 Miles from Memphis" (date unknown) EIGHTY MILES TO MEMPHIS, recorded by Grinderswitch on "Honest to Goodness" (2005) 100 MILES FROM MEMPHIS, recorded by Cheryl Crow on "100 Miles from Memphis" (2010). 100 MILES TO MEMPHIS, recorded by Jeremiah and the Red Eyes on "Home" (2012) 300 MILES (FROM MEMPHIS TO NEW ORLEANS), recorded by Ruthie & The Wranglers on "Ruthie and the Wranglers, Live at Goose Creek" (2011) A MILLION MILES FROM MEMPHIS, recorded by Dick Damron on "Tales from the Road" (2012) Then, too, there is a band called 500 Miles to Memphis. They have recorded albums called "Sunshine in a Shot Glass" and "We've Built Up to Nothing" and their songs appear on Deep Elm Records' Samplers, Nos. 7, 8, & 9 (2007, 2009, 2010). All these (except 30 MILES FROM MEMPHIS) can be found on Spotify. I can't find any mention in Billboard of a song by that title, which is odd, since people have remembered it being "a hit." |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Thirty Miles from Memphis From: GUEST,Harold Date: 30 May 13 - 12:36 PM Gene: Do you have the demo of the song by Mel McDaniels or is it the original? I have both. The latter I recorded from WMZQ Washington, DC, but they didn't give the artist name. The lyrics were correct and it is: Pawned by guitar in San Antone. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Thirty Miles from Memphis From: GUEST,Harold Date: 06 Aug 16 - 03:11 PM BINGO.....found the song on youtube finally. It's Just A Country Road From You by Ronnie Parker on the Little Darling label out of Nashville. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JD4NlEzKnk0 |
