Subject: RE: Tune Req: Waltz Me Back To Rockaway From: NH Dave Date: 02 Oct 06 - 09:25 PM A quick Google of the title brought up a blurb with this in it. Open call to artists – Deadline Alert: March 6 is the submission deadline to participate in Rockaway Artists' Alliance's exhibitions and special events for Art Frenzy and Remembering. These two huge spring shows are open to all artists – members and non-members: visual, performance, literary. Contact RAA for information, including submission guidelines. Email: RockArt116@aol.com. Rockaway Artists Alliance is also in the telephone book. I suspect that the email address might get you the words, as they mention the song in the rest of the article. Dave |

Subject: RE: Tune Req: Waltz Me Back To Rockaway From: GUEST,Andy Date: 05 Jul 13 - 01:27 AM Waltz Me Back to Rockaway (or Rockaway Waltz) by John Egan and the Irish Tradewinds There's things that I remember though they seem so long ago With my friends and my relations to a place we used to go Those old songs so dear still haunt my ear though they sound so far away I'll ne'er forget, I can see them yet, those old days in Rockaway Chorus: So, waltz me back to Rockaway How I'd love it if things were still like that today Waltz me back to Rockaway Like a small bit of Ireland in the US of A You could find twenty Irish pubs in every block Leitrim, The Bungalow, (Knot Lock?), the lot See a fine show without spending a dime With the girls on the boardwalk just passing the time Chorus (Accordion riff) In the evening we'd stop at the ol' Mayo Inn There Ma McNulty played the 'cordion On to The Sligo House, Leitrim House too, Mickey Carton, the McNultys, a latest Review The same Irish Circle still stands thankfully Where went many nights to see Ruth Morrissey Just blocks from the boardwalk we'd swing and we'd sway With all of our friends we would sing, dance and play Chorus (Piano riff) Chorus Chorus |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: Waltz Me Back To Rockaway From: GUEST,artie Date: 07 Jul 13 - 02:54 PM Could you email me the song as well. Wtchammer@optonline.net many thanx I would owe you |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: Waltz Me Back To Rockaway From: GUEST,Andy Date: 21 Jul 13 - 02:55 PM An alternate hearing of the second line in the below verse: You could find twenty Irish pubs in every block Leitrim, The Bungalow, (Knot Lock?), the lot See a fine show without spending a dime With the girls on the boardwalk just passing the time You could find twenty Irish pubs in every block Leaving the bungalow, not lock the lock See a fine show without spending a dime With the girls on the boardwalk just passing the time |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: Waltz Me Back To Rockaway From: GUEST,Andy Date: 21 Jul 13 - 03:06 PM P.S. the alternate line is in thanks to artie's interpretation of that line, namely that the times were such that you didn't need to lock your door. I was initially thrown off while trying to figure out that line while listening to it over and over because there actually was a bar called The Bungalow back in Rockaway's heyday. |
Subject: Lyr Add: THE ROCKAWAY WALTZ (John Egan) From: GUEST,Andy Date: 29 Dec 13 - 02:10 AM So, final version: Waltz Me Back to Rockaway (or Rockaway Waltz) by John Egan and the Irish Tradewinds There's things that I remember though they seem so long ago With my friends and my relations to a place we used to go Those old songs so dear still haunt my ear though they sound so far away I'll ne'er forget, I can see them yet, those old days in Rockaway Chorus: So, waltz me back to Rockaway How I'd love it if things were still like that today Waltz me back to Rockaway Like a small bit of Ireland in the US of A You could find twenty Irish pubs in every block Leave from the bungalow, not lock the lock See a fine show without spending a dime With the girls on the boardwalk just passing the time Chorus (Accordion riff) In the evening we'd stop at the ol' Mayo Inn There Ma McNulty played the 'cordion On to The Sligo House, Leitrim House too, Mickey Carton, the McNultys, I'll name just a few The same Irish Circle still stands thankfully Where went many nights to see Ruth Morrissey Just blocks from the boardwalk we'd swing and we'd sway With all of our friends we would sing, dance and play Chorus (Piano riff) Chorus Chorus |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Waltz Me Back To Rockaway From: Jim Dixon Date: 30 Dec 13 - 04:12 PM See the video at YouTube: The Rockaway Waltz written and performed by John Egan. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Waltz Me Back To Rockaway From: GUEST,Andy Date: 31 Dec 13 - 11:32 PM Sorry, I had this (below) verse right the first time but just noticed the mistake after watching Jim Dixon's YouTube referral:] In the evening we'd stop at the ol' Mayo Inn There Ma McNulty played the 'cordion On to The Sligo House, Leitrim House too, Mickey Carton, the McNultys,"I'll name just a few" Should be: Mickey Carton, the McNultys, "a latest Review" Then also a gaff: "Where went "many nights to see Ruth Morrissey Should be: "Where we went" many nights to see Ruth Morrissey So now again, with much thanks from artie, and Jim Dixon, the final version (altho now actually redundant after Jim found the song on YouTube); but anyhow: Waltz Me Back to Rockaway (or Rockaway Waltz) by John Egan and the Irish Tradewinds There's things that I remember though they seem so long ago With my friends and my relations to a place we used to go Those old songs so dear still haunt my ear though they sound so far away I'll ne'er forget, I can see them yet, those old days in Rockaway Chorus: So, waltz me back to Rockaway How I'd love it if things were still like that today Waltz me back to Rockaway Like a small bit of Ireland in the US of A You could find twenty Irish pubs in every block Leave from the bungalow, not lock the lock See a fine show without spending a dime With the girls on the boardwalk just passing the time Chorus (Accordion riff) In the evening we'd stop at the ol' Mayo Inn There Ma McNulty played the 'cordion On to The Sligo House, Leitrim House too, Mickey Carton, the McNultys, a latest review The same Irish Circle still stands thankfully Where we went many nights to see Ruth Morrissey Just blocks from the boardwalk we'd swing and we'd sway With all of our friends we would sing, dance and play Chorus (Piano riff) Chorus Chorus |
