Can anybody point me towards a suitably economical place in Boston, or NH/Maine to try find second-hand folk instruments? We also like junk and thrift shops.

Jock

Mike's Music Depot in Attleboro, MA. -- mostly guitars, but no telling what he'll have on hand at a given time.

There's the Music Emporium in Lexington MA - I don't know how their prices compare, but they're worth a phone call.

Curmudgeon here. Try Sandy's Music in Cambridge. And when you come up to the Press Room, you can stop by Gary's Guitars in Portsmouth or Acoustic Outfitters in Stratham. Happy Hunting -- Tom

I was going to recommend the Music Emporium, too, but stopped when I saw you were looking for something on the economical end of the scale. The Emporium is a great store, filled with knowledgeable people and wonderful instruments. But I don't know that you'll find it to be a bargain basement; they tend to deal in higher-end instruments (I have bought Martin, Larrivee and Lowden guitars there myself). Still, if you like the thought of spending some time in a music store full of great instruments, where they only invade your space if you want them to, it's worth a visit.

I'd have to go along with Whistle Stop, nice shop with high prices. Barry
