Subject: Sitar & Singer for Sorcha Dorcha!!!! From: InOBU Date: 23 Jul 01 - 08:29 PM Hey folks... for all the Sorcha Dorcha fans out there, just had a wonderful interview with the newest member of the band, Kamila, who I met through recording her at Hearthside, a brilliant classical singer, who, it turns out, plays the Sitar very very well. Well, you have to hear Sitar and Uilleann pipes folks... great stuff to come, just as the first tracks of Sorcha Dorcha's very serrious CD is finally begining to take shape. (Maybe Larry will cool out and stop going postal on line, eh?) Well... you all are in for a REAL TREAT! Cheers, Larry |

Subject: RE: Sitar & Singer for Sorcha Dorcha!!!! From: InOBU Date: 24 Jul 01 - 06:57 AM Actually Spaw, I have met and played with some folks from Pinewoods two Sundays ago, and things where very nice. We really had a great concert and got along fine... (Of course, I had to play back stage in the toilet, with a line to the stage ONLY KIDDING ... COULDN'T CONTROLL MYSELF!!!! A SORT OF PINEWOODS TURETTS!!!! FORGIVE ME!!! JOY!!!) Very serriously, the Woody Concert was mostly Pinewoods folks, and Steve Suffitt treated us very well, even giving us the best spot, the last song before the finale - the audience, mostly Pinewoods attenders, I believe, and a smattering of our folks, really showed us their appreciation... so no more Pinewoods jokes... well, I will try... but, SOMETIMES I CAN'T HELP MYSELF!!! But, when I do, know that I really do love and respect all the Pinewoods folks... But if I disapear suddunly and no one knows what happend to me, check any new holes in the back yards of the... NO STOP IT LARRY BEHAVE!!!!! You know how it is Spaw... the Humor Turetts kicks in and.... Larry |

Subject: RE: Sitar & Singer for Sorcha Dorcha!!!! From: GUEST,Roger the skiffler Date: 24 Jul 01 - 08:23 AM This combination of instruments brings to mind the old Birmingham joke: "You can tell a Brummie by the shamrock in his turban" which I've always taken as a tribute to multiculturalism rather than racist, especially as my grandad, born of Irish parents in India, used to tell it! If Irish bands can use banjos and bouzoukis I see no reason why a sitar wouldn't work. BTW (more thread creep, sorry, Larry)the S.African flamenco guitarist I met in Greece (see the Kalymnos 2001 thread)said he was fascinated by the similarities between Celtic, Flamenco and Greek bouzouki playing, different techniques producing some similar effects. He was hoping to research these some time. RtS |

Subject: RE: Sitar & Singer for Sorcha Dorcha!!!! From: InOBU Date: 24 Jul 01 - 09:29 AM Absoultly Roger... In fact, the ability to play a note sharply or bend it on the Sitar makes it much more like the pipes than the Bazouki - the drone notes and such, well Irish bands should have done this a long time ago... but wait until AFTER OUR CD comes out! AND WAIT TIL YA HEAR HER SING!!! Very very good. CHeers (PS Roger, something is on order... you'r gonna love this... I don't think she is known in England at all yet! My friend the Popular Halfwit, in Devises hadn't heard her and was captivated... ! ) |

Subject: RE: Sitar & Singer for Sorcha Dorcha!!!! From: InOBU Date: 24 Jul 01 - 05:09 PM HESP! Thanks for the the blue clicky to the SD site! I don't know where my head was! Personaly, I am really excited about this, and there are a few projects for the band, in the wings, that Kamila makes possible and is interested in. I am fairly sure that soon we can give a realice date for the CD. Cheers, Larry |
