Hi folks,as you know i have been quiet for a while although i still lurk around the mudcat.
The reason i am blethering now is that recently i have been on another site that, i thought, would be more attuned to Scotland.I am giving you the url to let you see why i left. What a disappointment!!I had to get out as my blood pressure was going through the roof.
Have a look at the madness.I was posting as myself.
It's a strange world.
PS,i don't know if it is politically correct to to knock another site but i was never that way inclined. ljc

I'm a firm believer that the passion most of us have for music prevents such silliness. Remove the music and Mudcat would very quickly be hijacked by about thirty people who would babble on endlessly with their political and racial agendas (agendae?). Another twenty would hang around constantly just for the fun of baiting both sides.

Keep in mind that most of the people who rant, DON'T have other outlets for their anger. If they got into these kinds of arguements in Pubs, there'd be fights galore. On the net you can say just about anything, and chances are nobody's gonna kill you.

The balance on Mudcat continues to favour music topics by a WIDE margin. As long as that keeps up, it'll attract (mostly) reasonable people.

Rick

Who is this guy posting as Little John Cameron? He must have hacked into Mudcat with LJC's password.

I know it's not the real Little John Cameron because this guy is posting in plain English, a language that the real LJC does not use.

ljc has on occasion used textbook english to communicate here at the mudcat. I think he does it out of sympathy for those of us in the US who have never had a chance to learn English, only American. - but then again, a lot of us have no problems reading his normal mode.

It seems that on that Scots site one troll was making all the noise and ugliness. Unfortunately he seems to have shut down all calm-and-rational discussion completely.

I don't like to bash anybody. It just ain't nice. Playful jabbing with one's chums is one thing, but mean-spiritedness is another thing entirely. I don't like it, not one bit.

It's too bad someone has to be that way and abuse what looks as though it might have been an interesting site.

Hi Mario....looks like we're reading the same things today.

Back in pre-history when Little John and I were in the same band, I could understand "Glasgow talk" a lot better. Something many Mudcatters may not know is that Little John was "the real thing"...a very talented musician, with a wonderful big booming voice. He's a great story teller as well.....and Dammit John, I'd sure like to see you in person again!

Every "chat room" has it's bad times. I frequent the Great Big Sea "chat" really message board. We just came through a nasty weekend. So bad the administrator wiped the whole board and started afresh. It was the first time I had ever seen that. The Scots site though looks like nasty is the pervasive tone, strange though, I have been to Scotland numerous times and never had an unpleastant encounter with a Scot. Ive had a few with English tourists though. The Scots dont much care for them, and you can look at their history to see why that might be. Just museing Nick

I got lost there. It's as if on the Cat you had people starting up a new thread every time they wanted to respond to what someone had said, and no clear way of finding the way from one to another. No wonder they all start shouting.

It reinforced my gratitude for the elegant architecture of the Mudcat. And my astonishment that noone so far as I can see has gone about it the same way.

Mr McGrath, you are right,it is very confusing. There are quite a few site set up like that. You have to look at the dates to follow the conversation, also the repetition of the post is annoying. However,as i said"Ah'm oot o' there noo".I made a few new friends there,as on other sites including the "cat"
I am still writing my daft stories for weeyins site.Later on i intend to put Scottish and Newfoundland items on.Right now the weather has finally perked up so i am out on the bike a fair bit.

Rick, thanks for the kind, though slightly overblown complement. It would be great if you could get a gig down here at one of the folk festivals.
I also noticed my Cameron namesake snuck on that site with a plug for his music."Nae flies oan ye son,eh"
My regards to the new member of the aneurysm club,i never doubted for a minute you would make it. ljc

Don't know about the passion for music in particular, just that we've all got a single shared interest (which happens to be music), and we're here to exercise that more than we're here to exercise our opinions on other stuff. The 'cat is very diverse, so there's plenty of non-music stuff going around, but bcos we share the common purpose of learning/teaching/talking about music, we don't shit in the pool.

Graham.
