Just got two e-mails from Lonesome EJ which contained the virus HERE

Norton got it before it arrived or was opened and it can repair it if it's caught. Be on the lookout though as it too takes the addys from the address book, similar to Sircam.

I just got it too. I didn't open it-- I PM'ed EJ first.

I have a LARGE Mudcat address book. If a message comes without WYSIWYG in the subject line, it ain't from me.

Prayer chain messages too-- PRAYER and WYSIWYG will be in the subject line if it's mine.

The one I got said "Green" in the Subject line and also that was the only word in the text. The attachment was called "CPQStart.z19" so I didn't think Symantec had caught it, yet.

I sent him a return e-mail and linked the Symantec site and suggested he post to the 'Cat, but afterwards I thought about it and didn't figure he'd mind all too much if I started this thread........I have a feeling Blondy has his hands full right now and if he's mad at me, well, I'll take his ass out on Rt. 101 and we'll work it out there.

Katmyluv, before it came in my screen lit up with the big Norton sign.....both times..... and listed the virus and my options. I got 2 and the attachments were different, but they were both infected. It works kinda' like the other one we've been hassling with.

If you received any email from me in the last 24 hours, please delete it. DON'T open any attachments!!! This came to me as an email that was from "Michael Homann" and read "have and c" and included an attachment. I had thought the attachment was a jpeg file I was expecting, and made several attempts to open it, getting error msgs each time. It placed an icon on my desktop called "Quickfile". Apparently this is related to the sircam virus mentioned in the earlier "virus" threads involving Bill/Sables. Jeri has listed the site for the anti-virus in that thread.

Thanks for the warning Lej, I am pretty much protected now after Sircam. but I did get a message from you with an attachment which I didn't open. Pleae don't feel that you are some sort of lepper, (I know I did,) It wasn't your fault that some bugger sent you the virus.

I got a file from LEJ last night called RMKEYS.EXE, with the message being titled "!"#$" and no text in the message. I ran InnoculateIT on the file (I updated on Jul 20) and it didn't find anything. I still didn't open it, because I couldn't see LEJ sending something without writing something about it.

This may be too new for your anti-virus software to pick up. Time to rely on your "wetware" (brain).

Just like any other social disease, the person who's infected usually doesn't know they're infected until it's too late. Nobody sends these things on purpose - they're designed so there aren't many "symptoms" until the virus had spread around a bit. No blame.

Maybe InnoculateIT doesn't check until I try to do something with the infected file. I tried to copy it somewhere and was told it was infected with Win32.Magistr.24876 - the one Spaw provided the Symantec link to in the first message.
