Subject: RE: SONG CHALLENGE! Index thru 7/27/01 From: MMario Date: 27 Jul 01 - 03:29 PM For those who may not remember - Challenge 42 was a multi-parter; one, some or all at the author's disgression. |

Subject: RE: SONG CHALLENGE! Index thru 7/27/01 From: Áine Date: 02 Aug 01 - 12:01 PM Dear Trapper (and all my darlin' Challenge!rs), I'd begun to put links to the original threads on the Song Challenges of the Past page; however, my back problem kept me from finishing the job. I can't tell you how much I appreciate your listing above, because it made the job so, so much easier for me to finish. Bless your little pea pickin' everythang, darlin'! So, y'all can now go to the original Challenge! threads on the 'SC of the Past' page by clicking on the date in parentheses beside the 'Part' number on each description. And I'll be keeping the links to future Challenge!s up to date on that page, too. I hope this helps all you Challenge!rs become 'Whole Bag' winners -- so, what are you waiting for? Get to writin'! ;-) Keep it going, Challenge!rs!! -- Áine |

Subject: RE: SONG CHALLENGE! Index thru July 7 2004 From: Shula Date: 08 Jul 04 - 02:54 AM Dear Folks, Since I haven't been around for awhile, I hope you'll pardon my ignorance. What, persackly, IS a song challenge? Shula |
Subject: RE: SONG CHALLENGE! Index thru July 7 2004 From: GUEST,MMario Date: 08 Jul 04 - 08:20 AM WOW! Shula - it is GOOD to see a post from you! (For those of you who are more recent - Shula was a cornerstone around here when I first discovered the 'cat many many moons ago) a "Song Challenge!" is a particularly wacky or interesting news item culled from the wilds of the internet (or elsewhere) - and posted as a challenge to lyricists. Sometimes they produce items that are the epitome of mediocre - other times gems - but almost always produce some discussion and generally a few laughs. (Not that there haven't been more serious ones.) Aine started these years ago - and has been the most successful in selecting topics that seem to inspire people. She maintains a web-site with the results - and awards various virtual treasures to the participants. (Website can be accessed through the quicklinks dropdown menu ) |

Subject: RE: SONG CHALLENGE! Index thru July 7 2004 From: Amos Date: 08 Jul 04 - 12:23 PM She was a cornerstone? Rough life, and little gratitude, I imagine. And you don't get to say anything! Obviously she's been promoted, maybe to window-frame? THey have a better outlook on life. A |

Subject: RE: SONG CHALLENGE! Index thru July 7 2004 From: Shula Date: 09 Jul 04 - 03:45 AM Dear Folks, I hope I am doing this right. The story is rather bland, but I thought the title might occasion a bit of humour: Yoga for Younguns If you've been within a doughnut's throw of your local gym lately you probably have a passing familiarity with yoga. In addition to poses no single-jointed individual could possibly hope to get themselves into, it also includes exotic vocabulary like Ashtanga, Vinyasa, Kundalini… and Itsy Bitsy. "Itsy Bitsy Yoga," is where meditating tots trim and tone. With the number of obese adolescents in the U.S. now at 17 percent, some fitness gurus think it's time to get a jump on healthy habits by bringing infants into the fold. "Today, the obesity rate is so alarming that anything that we can do to get parents and children active together, from the start of life, the better off we are," says Helen Grabedian, founder of "Itsy Bitsy Yoga." Garabedian teaches young yogis ranging from a few weeks to a few years old. According to a mother, Sarah, when her baby Evan is in a bad mood, he'll do some of the poses, and he just perks right up. Subject: RE: SONG CHALLENGE! Index thru July 7 2004 From: Amos Date: 09 Jul 04 - 10:23 AM Great idea for a song challege in my opinion, SHula!! The ordinary process that has evolved is to email suggested Challenges to doireanne@yahoo.com or PM them to Áine. When she starts a Song Challenge thread, proposed songs get put there and she posts virtual awards for them. Enjoy! A |
Subject: RE: SONG CHALLENGE! Index thru July 7 2004 From: Charley Noble Date: 09 Jul 04 - 05:58 PM Another BS thread "Methane Sinks Ships" also resulted in my humble opinion a brilliant song entitled "The Blow at Witch's Hole." The "Giant Squid" thread also inspired some wonderful ditties. Charley Noble |
