Subject: RE: Maeve Mulvany? From: mcdougall Date: 05 Sep 08 - 11:17 PM We were great fans of Butch and Maeve. We used to attend whenever they were playing at Bulldogs in Dorchester, Ma. We also saw them a few times at the Irish Pub in Falmouth, Cape Cod, Ma. I used to have some of their records, or tapes, but have no idea what happened to them. Does anyone know if you can still purchase them and if so where? Preferably cd's. |
Subject: RE: Maeve Mulvany? From: GUEST,Maurice Date: 03 Jul 08 - 07:17 AM Maeve had a part in a short film called "O'Donoghues Opera", which is well worth seeing as a souvenir of 1960's "ballad scene". Here's the link, as best I can make it, otherwise search Youtube (or Google) Click here --------------Link fixed. JoeClone------------ |
Subject: RE: Maeve Mulvany? From: GUEST Date: 01 Jul 08 - 06:18 PM Hi Tony, I have just been reading this thread re Maeve. I am Vera Rickard who worked in First Aid S. I'm shocked to hear that Maeve died and in that way. I was a member of the Emerald Girls Pipe Band and I believe she joined it at one time, before my time. My sisters knew her. I remember her from a ballad programme on RTE when she sang a song called 'Arbour Hill'. I wrote to ask for the words but she wrote back - I still have the letter - to say that the words were copyright but 'it's on my new record'. I know that your home in Brunswick Street was a hive of music when Maeve lived there. Belated condolences to you and your family. |
Subject: RE: Maeve Mulvany? From: GUEST,rob Date: 11 Mar 08 - 12:49 PM I well remember Maeve and Butch performing at a pub in N.Conway NH.the summer of 1972. I was so taken with their music I called my brother and had him and my sister-in-law come up from Boston. To Tony, my condolences and my prayers. We who had the privilege to meet them and enjoy their music will feel a freat loss. |

Subject: RE: Maeve Mulvany? From: Scrump Date: 03 Aug 06 - 10:20 AM Sorry to hear of Maeve's death. The only record of hers I ever heard was Sgt Bailey - she had a lovely voice from what I can recall. |
Subject: RE: Maeve Mulvany? From: GUEST,weerover Date: 03 Aug 06 - 10:01 AM DannyC, there is a song entitled "Roger Casement", quite distinct from the Banna Strand one. Can post the lyrics if anyone is interested. wr |
Subject: RE: Maeve Mulvany? From: DannyC Date: 02 Aug 06 - 06:25 PM Sorry to receive this sad update. One note: The song mentioned in the original inquiry (above) is likely "The Lonely Banna Strand". |
Subject: RE: Maeve Mulvany? From: GUEST,Maurice Date: 02 Aug 06 - 03:15 PM Very sorry to hear that, I knew Butch had died. She was quite a big name during the "ballad boom" of the '60's. Strong and confident performer. If I remenber rightly she had the first "Yamaha" guitar ever seen in this country at the time, up to then we thought they only made bikes. She and Butch, both together and separatly, gave a lot of pleasure to a lot of people...it's not a bad legacy. |

Subject: RE: Maeve Mulvany? From: guest Date: 29 Jul 01 - 03:45 PM A quick Google search finds this: Maeve Mulvany Popular and well-regarded folk singer in Dublin sessions and on radio and TV in the 1960s. Emigrated to USA around 1970. There she married singer Butch Moore (1938-2001), who had been lead singer with the Capitol Showband. Subject: Maeve Mulvany? From: GUEST,maire Date: 29 Jul 01 - 03:43 PM Does this name ring a bell with anyone? I came upon an LP by this woman, entitled Irish Rebel Ballads, and I was wondering who she is. There is no date on the record, but from the looks of the clothes in the photograph, I'd guess the late '60s. Did she make any other records? What became of her? One song on the album I particularly liked was called 'Roger Casement' and I'd never heard this ballad before. Does anyone know who wrote it? |
