Subject: A few Leadbelly songs From: Steve Latimer Date: 30 Jul 01 - 01:17 PM I know someone looking for the Chords to the following Leadbelly songs. Alabama bound, Take this hammer, Shorty George 2, Jumpin Judy, and You don't know me. I was able to find the lyrics for all but You Don't Know Me on the DT, but would appreciate it if anyone could help with the chords to them. Thanks in advance.

Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: A few Leadbelly songs From: toadfrog Date: 31 Jul 01 - 12:47 AM Are you just asking for chords, or a description of how to play the base line? "Take this Hammer," the way I've heard it, you could play with just about any set of three chords that fit your vocal range - I would play it in D. "Shorty George," where there is a real tricky guitar accompaniment, is a different matter. If I recall correctly, I've heard it played in G, which is about the easiest key for those tricky bass lines. It is my impression that Leadbelly tuned his guitar down about 2 tones to get his powerful base, maybe adding an electro-bass D (if they still have electro bass strings now). If all you want is chords, there is a thread around somewhere on how to select chords once you have decided what key to play in, and the thread can be accessed through one of them perm-threads. |
Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: A few Leadbelly songs From: Steve Latimer Date: 31 Jul 01 - 11:58 AM Toadfrog, The person who is looking for them learns most of his stuff from songbooks. I think what he is looking for is what you find in most songbooks, where there is the sheet music, lyrics and the chords over top of the lines. Any help would be appreciated. |

Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: A few Leadbelly songs From: pavane Date: 01 Aug 01 - 04:54 AM Once again, if you have an abc or MIDI file with just the tune, my program HARMONY can add (generate) the chords and print the music with chord names over the notes. (It can also show the lyrics aligned with the notes, but you have to input them yourself). It is currently a free download from my web site here . If you prefer, you can edit in the chord names yourself instead of the generated ones. |
