Two different search engines, Roger - the Forum Search on QuickLinks almost always works, but searches just message title and member name. The Digitrad and Forum Search (SuperSearch) is more complex and sometimes fails.

Forum search seems to be down at the moment (trying to pull old "Kokomo" thread up to see if "new" info I have is really new).

Yeah, the Digitrad and Forum Search (Supersearch) has been up and down the last few days, but the song will come right up if you put blackbird in the filter or Forum Search. The Filter is on the Forum Menu page, and Forum Search (click) is on the dropdown QuickLinks menu. The SuperSearch is more complex and sometimes goes down, but the Filter and Forum Search are rock-solid and rarely fail. It's not the end of the world if somebody doesn't search, and I don't think it's the end of the world if somebody posts a reminder to ask people to search.
If I see three in a day and some are from old-timers, I post a remark in the third one. If we work together on stuff like that, it makes Mudcat a more cohesive body of information.

Joe, in fairness to Bobbi & Ktbyrd, there are problems there too.

I sent Max (and probably I should have sent to you as well), but I did a Supersearch yesterday for "Sweet Forget Me Not". I was sure it was there. However it came back with an error. Major error I thought, since it looked like I had broken the database. However, I persevered, and tried both "Sweet Forget-Me-Not" and "Sweet Forget Me Knot" with good results.

I imagine a new user, or infrequent user of the database would have gotten discouraged with the first error message. I certainly would have.

Hi, Bobbi - we have several search utilities at Mudcat, and all of them are explained at the top of the FAQ. The best is the "Forum and Digitrad Search," but the Filter and the Forum Search (in QuickLinks) are very helpful, too. No, you won't always find everything, but it's a good idea to at least try a Mudcat search first. It's a good way to learn to use the resources we have right here, and it avoids duplication. I hate it when I go through the effort to harvest a song for the Digital Tradition, only to find it has been posted and harvested in three other locations.

Well Joe... in all fairness.. I have tried to search the forum thingy myself, but to us newbies.. it can be a challenge.. Just as the auctions can be.. Takes time to learn our way around.. And if we don't get the "DIGITRAD SEARCH" title just right, it doesn't always return a "HIT" when a request is made... Still playing with a lot of you tools and learning... You guys are great though... I love this site, I love this site, I love this site!

Dang. I wish people would search here first. Mudcatters do darn good research on the songs they post, and you're likely to get better information if you look here first.
