Subject: RE: Lyr Req: I Don't Want a Bunny Wunny (Tom Paxton) From: keberoxu Date: 03 Dec 19 - 06:53 PM I heard this song sung by Arlo Guthrie on the Boston Common, decades ago, when Pete Seeger still had a voice to sing with, and the two of them did this open-air concert together. The chorus is the same; but Guthrie sang a different conclusion to the third and final verse: "... Jimmy was a hero, felt it in his bones/ Said in the words of John Paul Jones: I DON'T WANT A BUNNY WUNNY . . ." |

Thanks again Anne |
Subject: Lyr Add:I DON'T WANT A BUNNY WUNNY (Tom Paxton) From: Joe Offer Date: 03 Aug 01 - 04:58 AM This is from Tom Paxton's Live For the Record album (1996). At the time, Paxton was doing a medley of his topical songs, the ones that don't last long. I don't know if this is the complete song, or if Paxton abbreviated it for the medley. -Joe Offer- I DON'T WANT A BUNNY WUNNY (Tom Paxton) President Carter got into his boat Wasn't in a hurry, wanted to float; Think about the country, think about sin, Along came a rabbit and he tried to climb in. And what did Jimmy say? CHORUS: I don't want a bunny wunny in my wittle wow boat, In my wittle wow boat in the pond. For the bunny might be cwazy and he'd bite me in the thwoat, In my wittle wow boat in the pond. Look at him swimming! Look at him fly! Ears laid back and a gleam in his eye! Hissing through his front teeth, swimming like a seal, If you were President, how would you feel? You'd prob'ly say: CHORUS President Carter saved the day, Splashed with his paddle, rabbit swam away. Jimmy was a hero; we were proud of him, Ever since Jimmy, picking have been slim, And I can hear him say: CHORUS JRO |
Subject: RE: Tom Paxton lyric - 'Bunny' From: Trevor Date: 03 Aug 01 - 03:58 AM It was about Carter actually, an incident where he was fishing from a boat when a rabbit was seen swimming towards him. The secret service guys thought it may be a remote controlled bomb or a Russian agent or something, leapt in after him and wrestled him to the bank, just in case. The rest of the chorus goes 'for the bunny might be cwazy and he'll gwab me by da fwoat, in my wittle wow boat on the pond.' I've got the rest at home and if there's no other response I'll post it tonight. Cheers! |
