(continuation of This thread.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT!

The Acoustic Café, which we were intending to visit on Friday evenings, has just changed their hours, so they no longer are open to the public on Fridays!

So now we need to decide what we're going to do.

Should we have our own gathering in Mousethief's spacious living room?

Should we try to find another venue to visit?

Should we bag the whole thing?

Please let your voice be heard, here in this thread.

Alex

Note: that evening the city of Sumner is sponsoring music in the park, just up the street from my house (adjacent to the Café, in fact): it's acoustic instrumental stuff (guitar and flute). We may or may not want to stroll up there and listen to them, then stroll back to Mousethief's pad for a little jam session of our own.

See: http://www.tingstadrumbel.com/ for the artists that will be performing.

Alex

NO BAGGING, whatever we do! And I was the one who originally just wanted to hang out and not go anywhere public, so the boys can conk out if they want to... so it's fine with me to just hang out. And maybe check out some music in the park... maybe not... see what happens... would they let us sing along?

If they're not open to the public, for whom are they open? (Just kidding, but if they're open for private gigs we might want to continue to consider them...)

But I still like the idea of Just Us, chez someone we know, even if we do overflow...

I have cofidence that you all will figure it out! We really have a great group out there and I've been reading enviously along here. BTW, SOMEBODY BRING A CAMERA!!! You know, for those sad souls like myself who want to be there....at least vicariously??

I'll go back to reading now.......Get this thing organized!

Catspaw, you rock! You cracked me up when I read your post! I'll be sure to keep the camera loaded, and get some pics up on the ol' website (www.mousethief.com) soon after the gathering.

Okay, chez Topolino it is. I'll get the living room cleaned up and made into something of a peformance space. Maybe the kids will even help a little!

As for those wishing lodging: Sumner has 2 motels, if privacy is your bag; or you can use that other kind of bag (the sleeping variety) in either our living room or the downstairs rec. room (which has a comfy couch AND a very hard futon).

If you go the motel route, do NOT pick the bavarian whatsit. My stepdaughter says the cops have busted several Meth labs there recently. I wouldn't even want to stand downwind of that place for very long.

The other motel in town is as follows:

Sumner Motor Inn 15502 Main St E Sumner, WA 253) 863-3250

Which is right next door to a mexican restaurant (flautas for brekkers -- yum!). It's about 1.5 miles from "Chez Topolino."

PS the Acoustic Café has designated Fridays as a "members only" night -- and I can't see us all becoming members (at $15 a throw*) just for a one-night gig. So Chez Topolino it is.

Alex

Depending on the hour, I might just take you up on a pice of floor. I have to be at White Pass the next day, and driving all the way back here and then halfway across the state again the next morning to camp isn't really shining a light for me right now...LOL

You got it Spaw. Pictures and good stuff to come your way.

have been slagging off on the apps until I heard ... that'll teach me.

Mousethief, I am so jealous!!! Please DO take lots of pictures.

This whole thread has made me incredibly homesick. I lived in Kent (WA) for 30 years, moved to Kansas two years ago, and have yet to make it back to the GREEN side of the country for a visit. Sigh. Wish I could make the gathering, it sounds like a whole lot of fun.

Y'all drive careful on I-5 and I-405, now. (Hee, hee, Sumner will never be the same!)

I'm going to do some experimenting over the next couple of weeks with my equipment here to see if we can get a tape-recording of the session for people who attend (and others if interested).

This could be a better seller than the "Brother Where Art Thou" soundtrack!

Mousethief & all the other mudcatters attending this event I wish I could attend but the distant is to far for me.One question is this a yearly, monthly or weekly event? One other thing if enough Mudcatters are interested I would be glad to host a gathering here on my Sheep Ranch in Roseburg Oregon.I have all kinds of parking for RVS and can furnish electricity for lights.Motels, stores and places to eat are close-by.Of course this gig would have to be done before the fall rain start. If not this year maybe we could shoot for 2002.Your Comments Louie Roy

Here's some: from a mousethief post from prior thread (remember, no acoustic cafe, but rest is stet):

The date: 24 August.

The Place: Mousethief's House (see driving directions, above)

The deal: supper and conversation at the Mouse Place, followed by live music at the Acoustic Cafe, located just about 6 short blocks north of same in Sumner, WA.

The time: show up between 5 and 7; we'll eat around 7 and wander over to the Cafe around 9ish.

Please let me know if you're coming, either here on this thread or by PM.

Thanks!

Alex

And here are the aforementioned driving directions, boy I hope I don't have to html everything:

From I-5, from south of the 512 interchange: Go north on 5, then west on 512, then north on 167 (less than a mile) then east on 410.

From I-5, from north of the Southcenter (405) interchange: Go south on 5, then north on 405, then south on 167, then east on 410.

From I-90, from east of the 405 interchange: Go west on 90, then south on 405, then south on 167, then east on 410.

From I-5, from south of the 405 interchange but north of the 516 (Kent-Des Moines Road) interchange: Go south on 5, then east on 516, then south on 167, then east on 410.

From I-5, from south of the 516 interchange but north of the 167 (River Road) interchange: Go south on 5, then north on 167 (follow the jog in Puyallup; watch for the signs!) then east on 410.

From I-5, from south of the 167 interchange but north of 512: Go north on 5, then north on 167, then east on 410.

ONCE YOU GET ON 410 EASTBOUND: Take the first exit (exit-only lane on the far right). Left at light (East Main or Traffic Avenue). Right at next light (Thompson). Under the train tracks.

From 410, east of Sumner: Go west on 410 to the 3rd Sumner exit (marked "Thompson" or maybe "Traffic Ave"). Go through the light, under the train tracks (you're on Thompson).

ONCE YOU'RE ON THOMPSON:

Go down several blocks to Kincaid. Turn right on Kincaid (landmark: very large, very teal victorian house). Look for the house with the lamp-post (r. side). That's mine.

How about a show-up time of between 5 and 6, with supper to be at about 6:30? Or is that too early?

Alex

Bring munchies or soft drinks, if you want to bring something. JenEllen and I are fixing dinner for everybody, but we will probably need something to munch on as the night wears on. Also beer; I don't stock any beer (not being a beer-drinker (eewwwww nasty stuff)) so if you want beer, bring your own.

but alas, i won't be able to make the gathering on the friday, i have a gig to play on one of the gulf islands (Pender) and have to catch the ferry at the ungodly hour of 9am saturday.. (i think)which means being there for 8, which means leaving my house about 7.. god this is getting worse as i type it!, oh well,,, such is the life of a performer.. and who knows what time we'll stop the party after the performance.. last year it went on till 3am!.. makes for a long day....

anyway, what i am trying to say is.. that i'll miss the gathering of the northwest clan!!!!

well, my door is always open (when i'm here) so if you ever get a chance to come north to canada, let me know.....
