Daithi is best reached through the Altan website. You can email Tom, their manager, through the site and he can forward your message on to Daithi.

The band just finished up their summer US dates, and the band has gone back to Ireland. If Daithi isn't doing the Irish gigs in Donegal (Mark often does them), he is probably home by now--to St. Paul.

Dunno that Paddy would necessarily give you the info on how to contact Daithi directly, or if they know where he is at any given moment. They are great friends, but not exactly each other's keepers.

I also don't know how Paddy and Erin feel about having their email address published publicly. They may not mind a bit, but if it were me, I'd go through Tom, especially if you don't know either Daithi or Paddy well. Tom is very helpful.

I wouldn't worry about publishing Paddy O'Brien's email address. It's already published at the site for the Paddy O'Brien Tune Collection. And I wouldn't be surprised if that's his home address and phone number also.

As to Paddy and Erin, I said I didn't know if they would mind or not, and they likely wouldn't mind a bit. Some people mind a great deal. If you are looking for professional help, you should never assume that the people you are dealing with "don't mind" having their email, phone, or address published on the Internet. Bad form, and all that.

But I also said, "if it were me" looking for a favor from a busy artist, especially if I didn't know them well, I'd bend over backwards to be polite. Which means, at least at first, going through channels.

As I said, Daithi can be contacted through the Altan website. Isn't that good enough?

Thanks all: I don't know idf Paddy O'Brian would remember me, but, the first time I heard Loftus Jones, long before the Irish Tradition recorded it, I heard it from Paddy at a session. We have a bunch of common friends. Thanks all, according to a mutual friend, I don't believe that Daithi is back in St. Paul anymore. Thanks for all the leads all, I will let you know if I find him. Cheers, Larry

Larry,

With all due respect, your friend is wrong about Daithi's residence. He still lives in St. Paul.

Isn't "Daithi" the Irish equivalent of "David"? Well, the St. Paul phone book lists a David Sproule living in Lauderdale, a suburb of St. Paul. You can find him on qwestdex.com. Mind you, I have no reason to think it's the same guy, other than the Daithi/David equivalence.

Of course, it doesn't even matter where Daithi lives, because he can be reached no matter where in the world he is via the Altan website.

But then, as Jim Dixon suggests, there is also the alternative of calling strangers and asking them to give you his number.

Guest, have you ever tried contacting a musician through an official website? Well, I have tried twice that I can remember. Peter Berryman sent me an immediate and cordial reply. Lou Killen NEVER replied, though it has been more than a year.

Jim,

I've never heard of anyone not receiving a prompt reply from Altan's manager, Tom Sherlock, promptly. He provides his personal email address on the website at the bottom of the "Contact Us" page. In fact, it's so easy to contact Altan this way, I can't imagine anyone not trying it as their first means of contacting any of the band members.

Larry,

Glad to hear you got the information you were seeking.

Da as in "ah" and hee, with emphasis (as is usual in Irish) on the first syllable.
