Subject: RE: Minnie Driver From: GUEST Date: 10 Aug 01 - 10:43 AM When it's a long par 4 hole and you don't want to risk slicing one into the woods, use your Minnie Driver off the tee. A little less power than the regular driver, but it'll keep the ball in play. |

Subject: RE: Minnie Driver From: Peg Date: 10 Aug 01 - 11:01 AM Doug: It is a really amazing mini-series made for British television. I think it would be vERY hard to find it on video. Directed and written by Danny Boyle (Trainsspotting etc) and starring Jonathan Pryce as a real-life based 19th century preacher who started his own fanatical cult by selecting six "virgins" from the town to begin his flock. The four segments are each told fromt he point of view of one of the women: Driver has one, as does Kerry Fox, and two actresses whose names I forget at the moment--one of them (she played the ailing queen in Elizabeth and a Cockney high powered exec on AbFab) plays a retarded woman and her segment is quite harrowing to watch... I saw it at the MFA; they made special arrangements to project PAL tapes I think. Also there was a legal battle because (back to the topic of the thread) Miss Driver did not want the (her) nude scene in the film broadcast and had soem sort of stipulatin drawn up barring that footage being shown to an audience so they had to edit it out of the tapes before screening them...the head of the film division at the musem and I talked about this. He said he did not understand what she objected to as the nude scene was very tasteful etc. I mentioned that, when she made this film, she was closer to a size 10 (like in Circle of Friends); then she lost a lot of weight and is more like a size 2 now. He agreed this may well be the reason... Anyway it may be easier to locate it in England than here; but I cannot recommend it highly enough... peg

Subject: RE: Minnie Driver From: GUEST,Roger the skiffler Date: 10 Aug 01 - 11:09 AM Kathy Burke. I forget the other one ?Lia Williams?(nothing new there!).The book gave all the women's points of view, the tv missed out two of them. Creepy Jonathan Pryce was excellent. Lots of parallels to modern cults. RtS (Was there a nude scene? Of course, I wouldn't have noticed *BG*) |

Subject: RE: Minnie Driver From: LR Mole Date: 10 Aug 01 - 11:51 AM Oh, but there was such a sweetness to her (or her character, I suppose) in "Circle of Friends". Even acting with Robin, the Boy Wonder. Why does Hollywood think too-thin is always beautiful? |

Subject: RE: Minnie Driver From: Paul from Hull Date: 11 Aug 01 - 08:16 PM Minnie Driver is a FINE Actress..she was EXCELLENT in 'Mr Wroe's Virgins', which was excellent in itself (I heartily add my recommendation of it to everything said here). The best performance in it was undoubtedly Kathy Burke's, but that girl can do ANYTHING. & yes I liked Minnie Driver with a little more meat on her bones, too. |
