Subject: BS: William Shatner scores BIG!!!
From: Little Hawk
Date: 13 Aug 01 - 01:22 PM

I have noticed that William Shatner has scored big on both the "Worst Actor" thread and the "Worst Song" thread! This puts him in a pretty special category, and I think he deserves a thread of his own in recognition of that fact.

I am proud of the fact that I attended Trent University, in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada...and so did William Shatner, though at an earlier date.

His cover of "Mr. Tambourine Man" stands out as the most unique and distinctive Dylan cover ever performed by anyone. As far as I know, Bob has never commented on it, however.

All I can say is, "Yay Bill!"

Say...

I just noticed that Bill did not make the "Worst Miscast" thread! If he had, he could have scored a hat trick. Sigh. Oh well..

Can't have it all, I guess.

Worst miscast: William Shatner in "The Brothers Karamazov". A Russian Capt. Kirk - strutting, emoting, and in general overacting.

Wa-a-a-ait a minute! He played in a movie version of "Hamlet", I think it was, when he was quite young. I saw a bit of it on a show where he was being interviewed, and Shatner himself pointed it out as atrociously bad acting, and was laughing about it. Anybody know the details on that?

I have yet to see him (Shatner) in anything or do anything which I liked. Nimoy on the other hand potrayed both an excellent Arthur in "Camelot" and an incredible Tevya in "Fiddler on the Roof"

OK, this might be a stretch, but: Worst MISCAST - William Shatner as a Director.

Oh my Lord, but the only thing worse than his acting is his acting when he directs himself :D

I remember back in either 69 or 70 paying to see Shatner on a "tour" he was doing - was suppossed to be him and several others about 2 hours with out-takes- turned out to be Shatner - for about 1/2 an hour - 15 minutes of which was him "shooting" audience members with a toy phaser. Can you say "rip off?"

I've never been a Shatner fan. But there is one thing he actually does quite well. He's really, really good at making fun of himself. I think that may be how he makes his living now.

Hey, come on, Mario! There were alien races who were willing to travel light years away from home to get zapped by Captain Kirk. Very few of them had the benefit of being zapped for a full 15 minutes, either. Usually a mere couple of seconds was all they got.

Then too, if we can believe the show, there were gorgeous alien females who traveled light years to get...ummm...bopped by him.

What are you complaining about, anyway? :-)

I'd give him a bad miscast for the part he played in Teckwar. He acted more like a used car salesman than a police chief (or whatever the heck he was supposed to be)And he created that show!

Heck! for Teckwar, I'll give him worst producer and worst writer as well.

Actually you'd have to give it to him worst hairpiece at least twice. That curly wig on T.J Hooker was scary.

I'd also like to nomininate him for worst costume on a TV show for Star Trek. That form fitting shirt was not flattering to his pot belly AND that shirt used to rip any time he even thought about gitting in a fight. further exposing the flabby body.

And how about that padded styrofoam doorman's uniform he wore in The first Star Trek movie. Pheeeew!!

Mr. Shatner has made a career by being amusingly bad. The last decent thing he did was those "Twilight Zone" episodes.

Back in his pre-fame days, Jim Carey used to do utterly hilarious impressions of the entire Star Trek cast, but particulary of Captain Kirk. He was way funnier before Hollywood got hold of him (Carey, I mean...).

The only thing funnier than his immitation of an actor is his impersonation of a singer!

I hear he is good at raising horses though.

Shatner earns another footnote in film history for starring in the only movie ever made with dialogue entirely in Esperanto! The movie's called "Incubus" and it's recently been rereleased on video. It's a weird supernatural thriller, really pretty dull, except for the surreality of seeing Shatner overact in the peculiar artificial language of Esperanto. I would venture to say it's his best role! (There are subtitles, not that it really matters...)

He was good in "Nightmare at 20,00 Feet", one of the better episodes of Twilight Zone. But the show called for someone who had to overact.

Well geez, even a Shatner has to do something well. Then again, for all I know, he may even be trying to breed with the mares................

It's true that Shatner overacts and that he hardly has more than three or four gestures and poses (by far many more than Richard Gere, if you come to think of it). But it's also true that no one plays the Enterprise Captain like him. I always tend to see Patrick Stewart holding a battleaxe and embracing his daughter young Guinevere in Boorman's "Excalibur" rather than boldly going where no one (except Jim) has gone before.

I can't confirm that.

It seems I have inadvertently offended a major Bob Dylan fan, namely bob jr. This is certainly ironical, since I am the most faithful Bob Dylan fan in this entire region (Simcoe County, Ontario, Canada).

I feel that a little idiocy is a welcome relief now and then...it relaxes a tense mind.

Besides, I've always kind of liked William Shatner, in a weird sort of way.

Aw, c'mon now! The pompous, oversexed Captain James T. Kirk was a lot more fun to watch on still-restrictive sixtes TV than the goody-two-shoes Captain Christopher Pike would have been (I refer to the [first] Star Trek pilot show, also featuring the bushy-eyebrowed, order-barking Spock – eek!).

bob jr.

when and in what thread did you ask about the origin of a folk song? Chances are that you didn't get replies because people didn't know about your request - since a perusal of your postings shows only one thread created in the last year - which means you posted your question (if it was within the last year) in a thread about another subject.

Special Announcement!!!

The ribbon-cutting ceremony has just been completed on the:

* * * William Shatner School of Bad Acting * * *

Almost everyone was there to witness this prestigious occasion! Well, quite a few people were there... Well, more than you might have expected...

Anyway, the WSSBA has now been launched, and will endeavour to perpetuate the extarordinary acting techniques of William Shatner, immortalized as James T. Kirk, Captain of the starship Enterprise (several of them, in fact).

The WSSBA is located on the grounds of a former mental asylum in beautiful Orillia, Ontario, Canada, and is fully equipped with McGill portable toilets.

I feel that in time this facility may eventually rival even the NYCFTTS in its scope and popularity.

We hope to have William Shatner himself here for a special dedication ceremony in September, when we erect a life-size statue of him in his starship uniform.

When asked to attend the ribbon-cutting, he politely declined, protesting a busy schedule. His parting words were "Piss off!", just before he hung up on us. He must have really been quite busy...

Mudcatters are invited to tour the magnificent facilities and brush up on their thespian skills at the earliest possible opportunity. Register for classes NOW!!!
