Subject: Lyr Add: THE WOLF (Catie Curtis & Jennifer Robohm)

THE WOLF
(Catie Curtis & Jennifer Robohm c. 1995 Water Tower Music)

When my daddy lived here, I never worried.
When my daddy lived here, he read me stories.
And I never was afraid when the endings were scary,
'Cause my daddy would say, "I will keep you safe
When the wolf comes to the house."

Now my mother has a boyfriend. She let him move in.
She let him tell her that she's just a fool.
And I've heard them fighting. I've heard him knock her down.
I try to read at night but I don't like it now.

'Cause when the wolf lives in your house, you can't get him out.
When the wolf lives in your house, you can't get him out.

My mother tells me we are a family,
But I don't want to be. I have a plan.
Yes, I'm waiting for the day when I am stronger,
And I will step in the way. I'll make him sorry.

When the wolf lives in your house, you can't get him out.
When the wolf lives in your house, you can't get him out.

[Recorded by Catie Curtis on "Truth from Lies," 1996.]

Subject: Lyr Add: ICY BARREL OF A LOADED GUN (Deaville)
From: Jim Dixon
Date: 30 Jan 02 - 01:18 PM

I was able to find some quotes from this song, and a sound sample, and I was able to piece together this much of it, but it's not complete. Most of the quotes came from this article in the Austin Chronicle:

ICY BARREL OF A LOADED GUN
(Breen/Deaville)

Well, my grandpa held me upon his knee.
He said, "Little girl, what do you want to be?"
He said, "Don't you want to be papa's girl,
And let me touch your pretty curls?"
If I said I didn't want to touch that way,
I knew that there would be hell to pay.
Well, my grandpa held me upon his knee,
And I'll never forget what he did to me
In the darkened night, nowhere to run.
From the icy barrel of a loaded gun.

Now I remember the vow I made that day,
I was old enough to …

And the peace I've found has let me say
Nobody's ever gonna hurt me now.
It's something I will not allow ...

I'll never forget that he caused me pain,
And my mama too, but I broke the chain,
Because nobody should ever have to run
From the icy barrel of a loaded gun.

[Recorded by Darcie Deaville on "Tornado in Slo-Mo" 1999.]

Icy Barrel Of A Loaded Gun (Deaville/Breen)

Well, my grandpa held me upon his knee
he said "little girl, what do want to be"
I told him "I was born to run from the icy barrel of a loaded gun

He said "Don't you want to be Papa's girl and let me touch
your pretty curls?"
If I said I didn't want to touch that way I knew that there would
be hell to pay

Well, my grandpa held me upon his knee
and I'll never forget what he did to me
In the dark of night nowhere to run from the
icy barrel of a loaded gun

CHORUS 1

Now, I remember the vow I made the day
I was old enough to run away
Nobody's ever gonna hurt me now
It's something' that I will not allow
When I return and I will someday I'm gonna show the man that I am not afraid
Gonna let him know that I will never run
from the Icy Barrel Of A Loaded Gun

I fell in love when I turned fifteen
to a man who's anger really frightened me
he'd knocked me out whenever he got high
so I kept on living to pacify

He was there when i walked out the door
with a crazy look and a forty four
Once again I knew I had to run from the
Icy Barrel Of A Loaded Gun

CHORUS 2

Now, I remember the vow I made the day I was
strong enough to run away
Nobody's ever gonna hurt me now
It's something' that I will not allow
When I return and I will someday I'm gonna
show the man that I am not afraid
Gonna let him know that I will never run
from the Icy Barrel Of A Loaded Gun

Well, my grandpa held me upon his knee
and I'll never forget what he did to me
he raised me in a world of shame
where I always thought it was me to blame

CHORUS 3

And I remember the vow I made that day
now the peace I've found has let me say
"Nobody's ever gonna hurt me now
It's something' that I will not allow"
the day i returned was the day I won
let the secret out that I kept so long
he'll never admit that he caused me pain
and my mama too, but I broke the chain
'cause nobody should ever have to run
from the Icy Barrel Of A Loaded Gun
'cause nobody should ever have to run
from the Icy Barrel Of A Loaded Gun

I co-wrote this song with Darcie and played electric guitar and sang on the original version from her 1991 release "Last Hitchhiker On The Lost Highway." The song and Darcie garnered a win in the New Folk Competition at the Kerrville Folk Festival in 1991. The song was later re-cut by Darcie for her "Tornado In Slo Mo" Release on Redwing Records in 1999.
