I am looking for this song which I sang in early 1940's when I was in third grade.

I don't remember the actual lyric, but I do remember a parody:

My sister and I remember yet

We returned one night and her bed was wet

We believed her story and we called it sweat

But we don't talk about that.

Found that it was recorded by Jimmy Dorsey, in Was not able to get any farther.

Pieced together from a couple of web sites. Most of the "verse" is missing.

MY SISTER AND I
(Lyrics: Hy Zaret; Music: Joan Whitney and Alex Kramer, ©1941Broadcast Music Inc.)

VERSE:
The warm and lovely world we knew has been struck by a bitter frost …
CHORUS:
My sister and I remember still
A tulip garden by an old Dutch mill,
And the home that was all our own until ...
But we don't talk about that.

My sister and I recall once more
The fishing schooners pulling into shore,
And the dog-cart we drove in days before ...
But we don't talk about that.

We're learning to forget the fear
That came from a troubled sky.
We're almost happy over here,
But sometimes we wake at night and cry.

My sister and I recall the day
We said goodbye, then we sailed away.
And we think of our friends that had to stay,
But we don't talk about that.

NOTES:- dog-cart is a two-wheeled horse-drawn buggy.
- "fear that came from the sky" London blitz 1940/41.
- "almost happy over here." shiploads of British children were moved to Canada for safety during the war.

A hit in 1941 for Jimmy Dorsey and His Orchestra, with Bob Eberly, vocalist.
