i have a grate grate uncle named simon fortier and he was a seveth son of a seveth son there were no sisters born between him and his brothers there for he was the real deal. he possessed the power to stop pain .my mom explained to me how her sister my aunt fell on top of a lit barbecue when they were young and my moms dad called Simon and said please take the pain away and with in one minuet my aunt completely stopped crying she was no longer in any pain but instead completely relaxed but this is not my question my question is can the 7th son of the 7th son pass on powers to family members and the reason why i am asking this is because my grandpa on my moms side has the ability to make both legs the same size because with any person one leg is longer then the other not by much but by a little and this can cause pain but my grandpa is able to some how make both legs the same size just by pushing on one and often times after he dose this the person is no longer in any type on pain. but my grandpa was born from Simmons sister so how can he possess this power when he is not from the 7th son of the 7th son. my mom also used to have this ability to sleep travel there is a name for it but i can not remember what it is but she used to be able to fall asleep and wake up outside of her body where she could go anywhere she wanted. so i am curious to fined out if it is at all possible for a 7th son of a 7th son to pass on a power or powers to different members of his family.

How could you be sure you were one? (if multiple mothers, illegitimate sons and stillbirths count - and how about miscarriages)

Both of my Grandmothers were healers. My Finnish Grandmother came to America when she was 16 (1896). She was an "Old Speaker" ... we were very close. My American Grandmother was a minister in the American Pentecostal church. She taught me hands on healing when I was seven. By eight I was "speakin in tongues."

At that very early age we knew I had the gift. I couldn't explain it ... didn't even try. I (we) just knew it worked. At the age of ten I witnessed things that drove me from the church.

About twenty years ago I was staying with my cousin for a few months. She was hurting in her arm. I tried the healing and it worked. It scared the hell out of both of us.

And NO, I'm NOT the 7th son of the 7th son ... if I was, and if wanted, I could probably rule the world! CHEERS, Bob(deckman)Nelson

Hi,
When I was a baby I had sever thrush and candida all through my body and genitals. My mom tried EVERYTHING and the docs didn't know why nothing was working. They tried several Rx, creams, and that blue stuff to paint my mouth with. A lady in our town said that her mother in law was a seventh daughter and could cure it. My desperate mom took me to her (she too was southern baptist and very religious). Anywho, my thrush literally cracked and peeled off of my mouth the very next day. It came back about a year later after taking antibiotics ad my mom called her to schedule an appt and she told mom just to put the phone up to my ear. This time it took about 2-3 days ,but cracked and peeled away also! This has always interested me bc i want to know how in the heck she does it (especially on the phone). Also, I am having problems with candida infection now and nothing seems to work in my 20s either so I'd be willing to try a seventh son/daughter out again. Anyone know of one in the Florida panhandle/alabama area?

I am the 7th child of the 7 child(on my father's side). I do not know that I have very special powers but three years ago, I have taken Massage Therapy, Acupressure & Reflexology Techniques and also Nerve Dislocatin Resetting Techniques such as Tennis Elbows and / or Reverse Tennis Elbows, Bursitis, Tendonitis, Sciatic Pains, Headaches, Migraines and many other types of Pains. My rate is 95% and I do not know if that is lucky or if I have special powers but people tell me that I am their last resource. After having just a few sessions, they improved by 50% and with furhter sessions, they improved by 75 to 90%.
Do I believe this mystical story of the 7 sons of the 7 sons? I do not know as I just found out three months ago about this.
Let me tell you that it intriges me very much.

Well, traditionally 7th sons of 7th sons are supposed to be witches or at least have some magical powers.
Here's a quote I had lying about somewhere (don't know the source):
Belief in the special gifts of a Seventh Son or Daughter
can be found in Folklore throughout the world. Leslie
Shepard in his 'Encyclopedia of Occultism and
parapsychology' states that in Romania the Seventh
Child is fated to become a vampire. And that in
England in the seventheenth century there were
reports of a Seventh Son healing the deaf blind and
lame.
In France, The Seventh Son was called a 'Marcou' and
branded with a 'fleur-de-lis' {reknown worldwide as a
symbol of the Divine & Quality, and all that is Holy,
Click this Link for history}. Good Luck was also said
to attend the Seventh Child. In olden days, when
Captains of Merchant Ships were setting sail on long
voyages, they would try, 'often by force if
neccessary' to have a Seventh Son on ship as Legend
has it that the Ship wouldn't sink with a Seventh Son
on Board
The reason why the Seventh Child as opposed to the first
or the fifth for example-should have 'Special Powers'
has it's roots in ancient beliefs. The number Seven
has many mystical and religious associations. Apart
from the Bible telling of God creating the world in
Seven Days, The number features throughout the old
and new testaments.
Seven is a very significant number in numerology and is
the basic unit of transition in natural cycles from
the week as a phase of the lunar cycle to the idea
that many of life's patterns are divided in phases of
Seven.

My parents assured me that to have the second sight one must be the seventh child of a seventh child.
I got a good deal of Irish tradition from my parents, but I couldn't tell you if it came from their parents, or from the Irish maids their parents employed.
My mother always said her grandmother was "fey". It was only shortly before she died that she would admit to being "fey" herself. I call it the whatsis, being reluctant to have that much faith in it. There was the time I got a strong sense not to walk down a certain street. I did. Two boys were tossing a football back and forth, and one of them got me good, right on the head. A three day headache!!! Since which time, if the whatsis says, don't go that way, I don't. but I refuse to take it really seriously.

Being born a seventh son of a seventh son means you are starting out life with a lot of alliteration... probably too much for an infant to handle.

My grandmother was a 7th child of a 7th child. She is now deceased. I grew up in a Babtist family.. her whole family was southern babtist and her husband my grandfather who died before I was born was a preacher. Anyways.. my grandmother had special healing powers. Like the post from Guestbj in Ireland, my grandmother could cure thrush mouth, ringwor, and instantly heal burns. She also "took away" the 10 warts that were on my hands that I had have burned off my doctors but kept returning.

She was a religious women though the church would not recognize or understand this. So it was kept hush hush in my family. Grandma never advertised these gifts.. but the family after seeing so many miraculas healings.. accepted this.. bu       t never talked about it.

She had a 7th son (she had 12 children altogether) and he could also had special healing powers. He also had very bad epilipsey and died young (40's). But he was special.. he was kind and you could just visably see he was very special.

I am glad to find other messages.. as I have not talked about this for many years.

Ah, and in the old Soviet Union women who bore (and raised?) eight children got the Motherhood Hero of the Soviet Union medal in silver, those bearing 10 or more kids got it in gold. A group of us got together and gave the silver one to my ex-husband's second wife the Christmas after she had her eighth -- and I, three gay guys, and another woman who'd had a hysterectomy for medical reasons got up and thanked her for taking SUCH GOOD CARE of the reproductive potential we were so unlikely to use...

I've heard people often talk about being the seventh born, personally I've never found being the seventh born lucky, but not only am I the seventh in my family my father is the seventh born and my mother is too (what does that mean?) Since I've heard more and more about comments about the seventh one I've grown more courious. So far I seen nothing special although I've experienced many connections that were bizaar oriented I believe that to be more my perception.

My wife got rheumatoid arthritis when she was 25 years old. As she was young the illness surged through her body and was soon in every joint - changing our lives utterly in weeks.

When a disaster like this happens - you look for an escape clause in reality. So one day my Mum was driving through a suburb of Birmingham (England this is - not Alabama)and she saw that an Irish 7th son of a seventh son was holding a healing ministry in one of those fundamentalist scout hut type churches.

We took Denise along - figuring what the hell. It won't do any harm. as I remember the guy looked a bit Eamon Holmes that very engaging dark Irish handsomeness, and he wore a pale green suit was SO Mr Showbiz in the 1970's - which is when this happened.

Most people had diseased arms, breasts etc and he laid his hands on them. But Denise was diseased all over so he advised her to bathe at midnight and into the bath put the earth from a freshly dug grave. So we thought what the hell. We did all that.

However unsurprisingly this caused no improvement in her medical condition.

I hope you find this helpful - its the only dealing I've had with 7th sons of seventh sons.

Hmmm ... No folklore on this (not much about in the bright, exceeding dry, air of Australia - but a friend's Dad was the 14th child of a 14th child. (His family lived in a sleepy little village on, the 'bush' side of the Great Dividing Range, called Sunny Corner ... and there wasn't much else to do at nights!)

If the genders of the children of both generations followed the statistical norm, there's a pretty good chance that he was the 7th son of a 7th son - although I can't recollect any 'magical' aura about him. Anyway, living in Sydney, in the post-war period he seems not to have intended to keep up the tradition ... he had 3 children; one daughter and two sons!

Regards,

Bob Bolton

My grandmother was a seventh daughter, and according to family lore, people did seek her out to tell the future. She had already passed away before I was born, but according to my mother, she had some degree of second-sight. I guess she found it very troubling when she saw something bad, so she tried not to use it. I wish I'd had the change to meet her (she died in 1935). Now that the culture is slightly more sympathetic towards people with special gifts, I wonder how she'd handle it if she were alive today.

I live in rural Ireland and have met many people who have received cures from a seventh son of a seventh son. They gifted with "cures".
I personally know one guy who can cure simple fungal infections such as "thrush" and "ringworm" in children.

Probably the most famous 7th son is Finbarr Nolan whose cures have been medically examined in the States

Thanks for the interesting posts, but we are in no danger. Further questioning revealed that he was including older sisters in the mix. He is merely the 7th child of a 7th child. This reduces his special powers to exactly what we all thought, he is merely another egotistical know all, and yes, we have told him so.

I heard Mose Allison sing ´7th Son´about a month ago in London, and it´s on his¨"Live at the Pizza Express" cd. In the same concert, he sang another song which contained just one line about a 7th son of a 7th son. Luckily/wickedly, I recorded the concert (for my own personal edification). I´ll listen to the recording and see if I can find this other song.

Walrus et al: Here's the words of the Bob Hope/Bing Crosby song, as I remember them. Can't remember which of the "Road To..." movies it came from, but I was about 7 years old and my sister and I had the knack of learning all the songs in a movie and singing them all the way home. Couldn't do that now! ... Anyway, the presence of the concept in such a pop setting makes me think that the specialness of 7th sons etc was very well known half a century ago.

It's a damn silly song anyway.

"Hoot mon, out of me way,
Who do you think you are?
It's the toe of me boot, mon,
If ye go too far!

Hoot mon, today's the day
We celebrate me birth --
The 7th son of the 7th son
Of a son of a gun from Firth!"

... there's probably more. I may have it on an LP, I found some old stuff at the library store. If anyone wants me to go look for it, just PM me.

Lots of interesting interpretations around, many of which are mentioned above: Orson Scott Card, Terry Pratchett, Susan Cooper, etc.

The "7th son" is also mentioned a lot in the old fairy tales, such as Grimm's. Usually the young man succeeded in whatever quest he was on because his luck, magical powers, and/or charm were phenomenal (due to his being a 7th son, of course). Grimm's is German, but for some reason I always thought of the 7th son tradition being Celtic-based?

Sorry McPiper, but I don't recall anything that would imply that being a 7th son is less than wonderful. You may just have to gag your co-worker!

One of the plot points in Card's Alvin Maker series is the whole question of how the 7 are counted & if they must be living. Only sons count. Alvin is a 7th son, but the oldest had been swept away in a river just before he was born. He has mystic power, but the next son who was also the 7th living son is also very powerful.

As I recall, vindelis is correct and the 7th son of a 7th son is supposed to have "second sight".

On the musical side (if it can be called music) I seem to remember Bob Hope (and I assume Bing Crosby) singing about the 7th son of a 7th son (and committing appalling "cod" Scots accents) in (I think) one of the "Road" series of films (no idea which one).

Only count the boys....don't know about multiple mothers or stillborns but I would think they would count if they were all boys.

Sorry to be a bit of a nerd on this, but, what does "seventh son of a seventh son mean?" It seems a bit vague-- Would it be the counting all the children?(i.e.--3 girls, three boys, and the seventh, a boy) or would it be any number of sisters, only counting the boys? And are they sons of a the same mother, or do you count all the sons of the father, regardless of the mother? And do you count the stillborns? Enquiring minds, you know...
