Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Cornish Floral Dance? From: vindelis Date: 16 Aug 01 - 03:30 PM The 'Togmeister' is the man who makes early morning radio bearable. (I'm a TOG), cause I'm not young enough to be a TYG. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Cornish Floral Dance? From: Gareth Date: 16 Aug 01 - 04:26 PM Mmario Sorry - speciffically over 40's UK joke. Once upon a time, an early morningish BBC DJ used to banish sleep and sanity by his own rendering of the Fluury (Floral ) Dance. I still shudder at the thought of it. Gareth |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Cornish Floral Dance? From: Kernow John Date: 18 Aug 01 - 05:24 PM The words given are those sung by Terry Wogan to the tune used for the Flora or Furry dance. As far as I am aware there is no Cornish Floral dance. Sorry to be pedantic but we aren't to keen on what Terry's done wiv our tune! If you'd like a good song about Flora day then go to www.folksession.co.uk and under songs you'll find "Home for Flora." Spot the Mudcat T shirt. KJ |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Cornish Floral Dance? From: AllisonA(Animaterra) Date: 19 Aug 01 - 01:02 PM Cool site, KJ! Who is that with the shirt? The songs list is fun- brings back memories for me of Padstow, 1978. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Cornish Floral Dance? From: Kernow John Date: 19 Aug 01 - 03:01 PM Animaterra I have to admit that the old guy in the shirt is me and the lady on the accordion is my good wife Marion. Glad to hear you have fond memories from Padstow, we'll be nearby next weekend at the Wadebridge festival. It's been fun making the site and I hope it will grow. I'm going to ask Max if it's ok to put on a Mudcat link. KJ |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Cornish Floral Dance? From: Drumshanty Date: 19 Aug 01 - 05:35 PM Kernow John Thanks for the link to the song. I lived in Helston for most of my teens and took part in Flora day every year, mostly as a maiden of the forest in the Hal an Tow - a very long time ago! It is almost eighteen years since I left Helston but I still find myself wallowing in nostalgia every 8 May. Tracy PS - nice site! |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Cornish Floral Dance? From: GUEST,Gerald Date: 19 Aug 01 - 08:26 PM Mousehole is said as 'mouwzall' down here. Is called so for the tiny harbour entrance which can us just get a boat through. There is a children's book called 'The Mousehole Cat' is worth a read to young folk. The lights here each Christmas are famous. All the buildings on the front and the boats in the harbour are lit up like Christmas Trees - folk come from far to see this. Bests Gerald |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Cornish Floral Dance? From: GUEST,C. N. Alberga Date: 29 Jul 04 - 09:06 PM Only three years late -- is this a record for reviving threads? The song in question is NOT the Furry day dance, but a composition by one Katie Moss, see this site (I haven't read the book myself): http://www.an-daras.com/m_bibliography_a.htm An Daras | Bibliography A notated version, using NWC, is here: http://www.vpmag.com/nwc/ethnic.html Ethnic / Folk / World Music I know, I know, it's listed under "English", but this will get you to the site where you can download the free player for NoteWorthy files -- worth every penny. After you've grabbed the file, go to "Home" and follow the link (on the right, under "NWC Information". BTW, the above site is cooperatively maintained by NWC users, and is not supported by the program's authors (though they are most helpful). C. Alberga |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Cornish Floral Dance? From: Malcolm Douglas Date: 29 Jul 04 - 09:27 PM See also the other discussions listed at the top of this page for more information on Ms Moss and her popular song based partly on traditional material. This is a redundant thread started a few years ago by someone who presumably didn't know how to use the onsite search engine (and who seems in any case never to have returned). I expect that's why the discussion died young. |
