Subject: Lullaby???
From: GUEST,legdots@aol.com

Trying to find sheet music or lyrics online for a song that has been sung for at least 4 generations in my family as a lullaby. Heritage is Irish/English/Scottish, so don't know if it originated there. First verse is:

Sang a pretty brooklet dancing down the dell
I must haste sweet flowers tho' I love you well
Soon I'll be a river rushing to the sea
What a merry moment that will be for me

Any help or links would be greatly appreciated!

There was an enquiry about this a while back:  Pretty Brooklet,  but nobody came up with anything at the time.

Subject: Lyr Add: SANG A PRETTY BROOKLET DANCING DOWN...
From: Jim Dixon

This was published in The Prescott [Arizona] Evening Courier on Monday, July 31, 1933, page 4, column 3:

Sang a pretty brooklet dancing down the dell,
"I must haste, sweet flowers, though I love you well.
Soon I'll be a river rushing to the sea.
What a happy moment that will be for me."

So it leaped in sunlight past its playmates there,
Pausing not to answer greetings bright and fair.
Growing prouder, grander, hushed its laugh of glee,
'Twas a mighty river rushing to the sea.

You can put it in the Lullaby finder at http://www.lullaby-link.com and see if people recognize it there.

Good luck!
Amy
