Subject: NAME OUR GROUP From: Jeep man Date: 17 Aug 01 - 09:34 PM We need a name. Mudcatters rally round. There are four of us and we are all into bluegrass and folk. We want to form a splinter group to do the songs not heard much, the traditional, the funny and the fun to do. We don't intend to be real serious. We have myself and one other and we are old as dirt. The other two are sprouts. They are all very good musicians. Guitar, Mandolin, Banjo and sometimes a fiddle. All names considered, Jeep |

Subject: RE: NAME OUR GROUP From: GutBucketeer Date: 20 Aug 01 - 09:55 PM I have a name reserved from Carl Sandburg's Rootabaga Stories. You may use it as you wish since It will probably be a long time before I'm in a group that befits it's use. The Musical Soup Eaters. Other great names from his collection of stories are Haystack Crickets Hot Grounders The White Horse Girl and Blue Wind Boy The Zizzies (who made the Zig Zag Railroad do just that!) Sleepy Heads Easy Ticklers The Flongboos Anyway, it's a great book which is both whimsical, and thoughtful. My kids like it too! JAB |

Subject: RE: NAME OUR GROUP From: SharonA Date: 21 Aug 01 - 09:53 AM I understand "sprouts" refers to the young 'uns in the group, but "splinters"? Will anyone understand that that refers to a splinter group? Or will they think it refers to the group's older members (dead wood? Is that the image you want?)? |

Subject: RE: NAME OUR GROUP From: GUEST,Roger the skiffler Date: 21 Aug 01 - 10:17 AM As I'll never need it I'd offer my fantasy '50s R&R group name, but as it is appropriate for my lack of vocal talent and general grumpiness it probably won't fit anyone else: Mal Canto and the Malcontents. RtS (my blues persona would be the Croakin' Bullfrog) |
