We need a name. Mudcatters rally round.

There are four of us and we are all into bluegrass and folk. We want to form a splinter group to do the songs not heard much, the traditional, the funny and the fun to do. We don't intend to be real serious.

We have myself and one other and we are old as dirt. The other two are sprouts.

They are all very good musicians. Guitar, Mandolin, Banjo and sometimes a fiddle.

All names considered, Jeep

I kind of like "Old as Dirt"! If somebody asks, "But what about the kids there?" just say you're talking about the music.

Aloha,
Mark

I agree with the first idea, or shorten it to

Splinter Sprouts
Sprouted Splinters
Tickle Yer Ribs
Old Dirt...Young Sprouts
Dirt N' Sprouts

I always love these kinds of threads. They are so much fun!

Thanks,

kat

OK, seriously, folks.

Acorns 'n' Oaks? (because the nut doesn't fall far from the tree)

Roots 'n' Branches (There's a compilation CD by that name, though. Damned good CD too. Has the Bing brothers, Robin Kessinger, and I forget who else, but it's dynamite)

I also have a just for fun bluegrass band and we poke alot of fun at ourselves & our down home roots. Believe it or don't, there is a terrific band in a town where I once lived called "The Senior Citizens Country & Western Band." They are terrific! They're all the rage at every nursing home in town and never lack for gigs.

Bluehair Grassers Gray Grass Bluegrass Geezers Bluegrass Hotties Old Timers Bluegrass Band

Good Luck & have fun!

I have a name reserved from Carl Sandburg's Rootabaga Stories. You may use it as you wish since It will probably be a long time before I'm in a group that befits it's use.

The Musical Soup Eaters.

Other great names from his collection of stories are

Haystack Crickets Hot Grounders The White Horse Girl and Blue Wind Boy The Zizzies (who made the Zig Zag Railroad do just that!) Sleepy Heads Easy Ticklers The Flongboos

Anyway, it's a great book which is both whimsical, and thoughtful.

My kids like it too!

JAB

I understand "sprouts" refers to the young 'uns in the group, but "splinters"? Will anyone understand that that refers to a splinter group? Or will they think it refers to the group's older members (dead wood? Is that the image you want?)?

As I'll never need it I'd offer my fantasy '50s R&R group name, but as it is appropriate for my lack of vocal talent and general grumpiness it probably won't fit anyone else: Mal Canto and the Malcontents.
RtS (my blues persona would be the Croakin' Bullfrog)
