Hello, I am looking around for a new guitar and have been pretty pleased with some Taylors I've heard. But... a couple of folks I know have said to me that Taylors don't hold up well in the long run, constructionally speaking. Though,they weren't too specific. They seem like well made instruments to me. Anyway, what do you think? Have they done well for you? Thanks, Knappo

I have a friend who's been playing a Taylor 12 string professionally for about 10 years now, and it's holding up magnificently. That's the best info I can offer at this point. Damn good guitar.

I recently got to do a fret job and set-up on a Taylor 510 made in 1984, which has been used hard and put away wet for years by a very busy local musician. It has held up well indeed. (as has my 710, but I've only had it for the last 4 years.)I'd say that they are as durable as anything else.

I know some folks who like their Taylors. I have a baby taylor (bought 2nd hand sight unseen because I trusted the taylor name, unfortunately) which I thought would be good for carrying around for jamming at festivals. It is wretched-quite problematic. The baby taylors evidently all have design problems which Taylor has not changed, yet they still sell the guitars. I could not buy an instrument from a company which knowingly produces defective instruments. I do, however, have a 1964 Gibson I am still playing after all these years. I know folks who still have their Martins from the 60's & 70's with no complaints. If I ever replaced my Gibson I think I would either find a guitar made in the good ole days, or get one of the trusted, tried & true brands.

A couple of years ago, Taylor had some problems with the glue they were using and things tended to come apart.Bob Taylor was extremely concerned with this and went though a period of destructive testing. He would pull instruments off the production line in various states of completeness and then destroy them to find their breaking points.

They have subsequently solved a lot of those problems with a change of glue and different construction techniques.

I'm told the videos of this process are quite entertaining.

If you go to Taylor's website your can order their video for free and they show how they construct the new necks at the body.They also show how they break glue joints and dovetailed and slotted joints.

I have a Taylor 410e, and it without doubt the best guitar I have ever played.
It was only after buying it that I began to notice just how many professional musicians using the Taylor brand.
There's thousands of em........ BUY A TAYLOR!!!!

I play an 18 year old Taylor 810, and, I can't say enough good about it. None of the joints have come loose, the top has no buckles, and the intonation is the best I have ever seen in any guitar.

As I have posted before, I've owned them all, Guild, Mossman, Gibson, Ibanez and an HD 28 Martin. they were all very good instruments, but, none of them could hold a candle to the Taylor. If you want a guitar that will never be worth less than you pay for it, buy a Martin. If you want one to play and never have to deal with a warped neck or a bridge that is half an inch off, or action so high you could stuff a cat under the strings, or an intonation problem that makes it sound like a Kay, buy a Taylor.

I bought a taylor 512 in 1985 and my signigicant other still plays it. It went in for a neck adjustment in the early '90's, but otherwise has had no problems. In 1998, I bought a taylor k14c and have, so far, had no problems with it. On the other hand, I have not liked the way Baby Taylors sound when I've noodled around on them. For a guitar I can play in the car while travelling, I like the Martin backpacker. (No, I'm not driving while I play it.)

I dont care for the sound of ANY small guitar. They do have their place because of their compact size, but, IMO they lack the overall sound quality of the drednaught or the jumbo.
