'Christy Chat, Latest live dates, guestbook, news ... - Christy Moore
old.christymoore.com/guestbook/index.php?pageNum_rs...I know your probably fed up with this question on the song, but it is a great song. ... him to sing it again for Donal Lunny who wrote down the tune as I wrote the words. ... The late Floyd Westerman sang a version "Indian Ways and Indian Laws".'

The above is a Google site, but it will not open for me. I have no idea what else there is about the song on that site.

You're right of course, Brendy. I just copied and replaced without an eye for the lyrics.

We have at least three different versions of 'Irish ways and Irish laws' in the Forum all showing the 'harvested' sign. Only one of them has the two lines correct but that version has 'spillages of Irish blood'. I see now how it comes that the DT is full of errors.

Over the web, none of the nearly ten versions I have seen has 'Waking to the morning', most have 'waking in the morning' (even the Christy Moore site, thought I'm sure he sings 'to'), one even had 'walking to the morning'. Another instance where the majority is wrong.

If it is to follow the structure of the song, Wolfgang, it would, of course, be:
'Waking to the morning, waking to the morning'

It's a great song, but I've not heard the "americanized" version.

Last night, I read in Christy Moore's great songbook/autobiography One Voice: My Life in Song that the song Irish ways and Irish laws has been adapted to North America as 'Indian ways and Indian laws'. There was no further information in Moore's book. I can easily guess the first verse:

Once upon a time there was,
Indian ways and Indian laws,
villages of Indian blood
waitin' for the morning,
waitin' for the mornin'.

But there must be more changes in later verses. I'd love to see the lyrics here.

Wolfgang
