Hi all, Several years ago, I emailed someone w Battlefield Band about this sweet song. Several months passed and the Davey himself emailed me the cords. I had no idea of his health problems. He even expressed his remorse at not contacting me sooner.... What a guy! If you want a copy of the email contact me at wombatss@rocketmail.com. Would post the letter here, but have had a bit too much to drink to do that. Love Battlefield Band, love horses esp bit sweet gentile ones. Verry humbled at his gesture. Their music is so sweet because these guys are. God Bless them!

Hi Bruce and John and Skipy, et al.

I was pondering these chords as shown above with a leary eye.    All the Sus chords were, SUS-picious to say the least. Then I remembered that Davy Steele probably wrote this on a bouzouki. I have wondered about these chords for some time. Thanks to all who helped find the chords at last.

Don

1st Verse:
G                Dsus2      G      Dsus2/F#
A've ay worked on farms an' fae the start
    G    Dsus2 Dsus2/B   Asus4(repeat
progressions)
The muckle horses won ma heart
Wi' big broad backs they proudly stand
The uncrowned kings o' aw the land
Dsus2/B    Dsus2/F#    G       Dsus2/B
An' yet for aw their power and strength
G             Dsus2/B   G       Asus4
They're as gentle as a summer's wind

Chorus:
Dsus2/F# Asus4    Dsus2
So steady boys walk on
Dsus2/F#      G    Asus4
Oor work is nearly done
G       Dsus2/B      Dsus2/F#    G
No more we'll till or plough the fields,
Dsus2/F#    G       Asus4
The horses' day is gone
G       Dsus2/B    Dsus2/F#      G
An' this will be oor last trip home,
Dsus2/F#    Asus4    Dsus2
So steady boys walk on.

Riff: Dsus2 (pluck strings: D, G, B, G, but pull off on the 2nd G)

from the link posted above. I also posted this about two weeks back. FYI.

Don, I do it a capella, but I'm pretty sure I could come up with a set of chords for you (if not the same ones Battlefield uses, still ones that sound right).
Give me a couple of days, and then remind me if I forget.
Blessings,
Barbara
