In no particular order Richard Thompson Chris Smither I'm stuck now as I haven't thought about it before I started the thread :)

Some brighter spark than me get the ball rolling Hille xx

Connemara or Grace Griffith solo, Poor Clares, Clandestine, Mary Black, Al Petteway, Amy White.

A mainly local selection, but for me, that is what "folk" is all about!

My dream lineup happened in 1963 at the Newport Folk Festival. I wish I could teleport there right now. It will not be like that again. They believed they could change the world, and to some extent they did.

Brian McNeill for all-round MCing plus a couple of sets; Jez Lowe for sets and festival poster; De Dannan; Tom Paxton; James Keelaghan; Malinky; Heather Heywood for the trad. stuff; Judy Small; Andy Irvine - I'd better stop here, or I'll go on all night!

All the performers who live in Mudcatville, doing a couple of sets apiece and ebbing and flowing in and out of each other's backups.

Catspaw, that's NOT what I meant by ebbing in my backup ....

What style? I'm in to too much variety for just one festival, unless there's no topic.-

Doc Watson, Norman Blake, David Russle, Ana Vidovic, Hugh Masekela, Paul Simon, Angelit, John Stephan Band, Sparky Rucker, John Jackson, Anggun, Bross Townsend, Ralph Stanley, Earth Wind and Fire (with Maurice White), Al Green.

Brought back to life-
Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee, Lee Hays to perform with the rest of the Weavers (all 7 at once, like in the Reunion at Carnegie albums) Jr. Walker, Frank Zappa, Bruce Jay Pascow, Sam Cooke.

I'd have to ad a bit to this list. But this list is a good start.

Hmmm! Hard one this.

Perhaps, without raising the sadly deceased, and in no particular running order except where indicated:

First day

Maria Muldaur with John Sebastian
Flook
J P Cormier
Cesaria Evora
Tony McManus
Karan Casey
Ali Farka Toure (with Ry Cooder)
and, to finish the evening with a flourish
La Bottine Souriante

Second day

Ani DiFranco
Eric Bibb
Susana Seveine
Lia Luachra
Salif Keita
Susana Baca
Dick Gaughan
and, once again to finish the ebeving with a bang!
Milladoiro(br>

Seems a pity to have left out some of my favourites but I always like a festival with a good varied line-up!

I think folks should stick to the living, but, if you are gonna include dead people I would stick to dead people exclusively, mineaswell, it aint like you'd get another chance to see them next year.
My living festival -
Dylan, ramblin jack, Makem and Clancy, tarbox Ramblers, Tom Waits, Buddy Guy, Ralph Stanley, Doc Watson, Johnny Cash, Alvin Youngblood Hart (acoustic).....

My dead Festival -
Charlie Patton, robert johnson, Muddy waters, Howlin wolf, Band Reunion, Clancy brothers Reunion, Doc and Merle, Mahalia Jackson, Woody guthrie, Fred Mcdowell, Sonny and Brownie, Cannon's jug Stompers, frank stokes this festival could last a month.......

My dream festival line up would have no power line and then the volume would be FOLK not electronic and I would get to sleep and DREAM.
so that's cut down the potential artists considerably.
Johnny Collins and Hilary Spencer (Artisan) immediately spring to mind for those who would be lost without the VOLUME. For me? anyone confident accoustically.

If we are to include those who are lost to us, there is one name we MUST include, & I'm VERY surprised she hasnt been mentioned already...

Ken Johnson and I had as our annual competition at Stainsby Festival a couple of years ago 'Fantasy Folk Festival'. The rules were simple you had an unlimited budget and could have anyone dead or alive. We had some cracking entries including a spooky one which had as one of the acts 'the Gratefull Dead as long as there all dead at the time' (Got back from the festival to find Jerry Garcia had actually died!!) the one I liked was:- Friday- Spinners RE-union Concert; Sat- Spinners Farewll Concert

If we're sticking to live acts then I'd go with WW's choice of all the 'Catters, but add a certain Mr Donegan as headliner and my mate Yorgos from Greece(I promise to sit quietly in a corner and not bring my kazoo!).
If we expand it to live blues then the Blues Band, BB King, Youngblood Hart,Eric Bibb, Taj Mahal, R.J Burnside,...the list goes on. Dead ones, the list would be too long....
RtS (and a film-star style camper for me in a non-boggy situation!)
