Subject: who is George Lewis? A new Dylan song question. From: GUEST,djh Date: 24 Aug 01 - 01:10 PM I was just listening to Dylan's new one Highwater Everywhere( it is available at expecting Rain). There are Several references to real people - Title is C. Patton connected , Big Joe Williams is mentioned in first verse. A couple of verses later goes like this - George Lewis told the Englishmen, the Italian, and the Jew , you can't open your mind to every concievable point of view, they got charles darwin pinned down on the Highway ect.....Bring him in Dead or alive" The only george Lewis that pops up in a web search is a contemparary Jazz composer who uses computers in the creative process.Anyone know what/who Bob's talkin about? |

Subject: RE: who is George Lewis? From: katlaughing Date: 24 Aug 01 - 02:42 PM I think it might be an old jazz musician who started out in the 1920's, then enjoyed a renaissance in the 50's and 60's about the time Dylan would have been paying attention. Here's a BIO about him. Thanks, kat |
