Subject: Old Triangle w/ Dermot O'reilly vocals From: GUEST,Futon Date: 25 Aug 01 - 09:09 PM Hi, I'm trying to find an mp3, cd, 8 track, anything, of The Old Triangle, as done by the Harrigton Brothers with Dernot O'reilly on vocals. Any help would be great! Thanks! |
Subject: Lyr Add: THE OULD TRIANGLE (Brendan Behan) From: Lin in Kansas Date: 26 Aug 01 - 01:03 AM Guest, Futon-- Can't find anything by the Harrington Brothers or Dermot O'Reilly, but you can download an MP3 of the song done by the Dubliners here (click). Or, you can find a .wav of Brendan Behan (the author of the song) singing part of it a capella here (click). A DT search turns up an old music hall tune called "Never Let Your Braces Dangle", which I'm pretty sure isn't the one you're looking for. So I'm posting the lyrics of the Brendan Behan version below, with chords for the first verse.
The Old Triangle
To begin the morning, with the water boiling Get out of bed, clean up your cell And the old triangle, went jingle jangle All along the banks of the Royal Canal. On a fine spring evening the lag lay dreamin' The sea-gulls beamin' high above the wall And that old triangle goes jingle jangle All along the banks of the Royal Canal. The screw was peepin' and the lag lay sleepin' As he lay there weeping for his good gal Sal. And the old triangle, went jingle jangle All along the banks of the Royal Canal. In the female prison, there are seventy women and it's with all of them where I'd like to dwell And the old triangle would go jingle jangle All along the banks of the Royal Canal. Ah, the day was dying and the lag was sighing As I lay cryin' in my prison cell And that old triangle, went jingle jangle All along the banks of the Royal Canal. |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: Old Triangle w/ Dermot O'reilly voc From: GUEST,Futon Date: 26 Aug 01 - 01:42 PM That is the song alright, and I love the version with Dermot singing. For those who don't know Dermot O'reilly was in Ryan's Fancy here in Newfoundland in the 70's, but he did this song on the side as a far as I can tell, and according to what he told me. He actually told me to come here and look for it. :) If youn like trad/celtic/irish stuff just search on Newfoundland music, you'll enjoy it very much I'm sure. :)
