Kat,

The second one by Whittier is the one she wanted but it'a a different "Carve me an angel" than she was looking for.

Thank you very much and good for you for helping my Grandma to remember such gems.

Rich

If anyone knows of "a poetry discussion group" that's in any way a match for the Mudcat, even when it comes to finding longlost poems, I'd truly be grateful to know its URL.

Poetry has often become music, all over the world, including here at the Mudcat. Good lyrics are poetry.

Rich, let us know if those are the right ones, okay? Good for you helping your Grandma to remember such gems.

Well I thank you guest, you're very kind, but I liked the poety, And maybe he could write a little note or two, and sing it at his next party....

Don't know the first one, but there's a similar one on this page

The second one is by John Greenleaf Whittier, is called 'In School Days' and can be found on this page

You'd be better off finding a poetry discussion group for such requests.

Mudcat is (supposed to be) about Folk and Blues

My grandmother asked my to look on this new-fangled computer thingie and try to find the author of these 2 poems.

One begins:
Carve me an angel, sculptor
And let your stone be white.
So white that it will shimmer,
Reflecting back the light.

The second reads
Still sits the schoolhouse by the road
A ragged beggar sleeping
(next line unknown)
And blackberry vines are creeping.

Rich
