Need lyrics and chords to what I'm pretty sure is an old ANZAC drinking song. It's a sweet and tender thing about guys who "Love to go swimmin with bowlegged women and dive between their legs." That's all I've got, but surely there's an Aussie who'll know it.

I found a lot of references to it, but not the lyrics; anybody else?

G'day Lee Shore,

I know that I have seen those lyrics (if not the rest)quoted somewhere. I will check in a couple of recent Australian books of soldier's songs ... and get back if I find it.

Regards,

Bob Bolton

Does anyone know more of this song? Could someone help me with the tune by singing it into my voicemail at 508-464-6373.

Thanks!

G'day again,

Gypsy: I couldn't see any reference in the usual collections of Australian / services song.

What I can remember being sung was ltttle more than Lee Shore quoted ... usually sung to the marching tune that also has the lines:

"The poor little bugger will never play rugger ... "

attached. Perhaps these have migrated in to provide an extra verse.

(I was actually playing beside the bloke who I remember as singing these words, last Sunday ... when we doth provided music for the Australian Heritage Dancers ... in the Sydney Chinese New Year March! I was a bit too busy to remember this query and ask if he had more ... I follow him up, as well.

BTW: At the end of the march, from Sydney Town Hall to Dixon Street, in Chinatown, I was grabbed by visiting (UK) Mudcatter Bill Sables. I think he had recognised me going past up at the Town Hall ... and he had skirted round the crowds to greet me at the end of the march. We had a quick chat ... before he had to find his way back to where he had left his wife!)

John Mehlberg: Given references to "... old ANZAC drinking song ...", &c - perhaps you should give Warren Fahey a prompt, to see if he come across such unattached lines, which he didn't include in his Diggers' Songs book.

I might also run it past Rob Willis, of Forbes, NSW ... as he did a lot of work with WWII / Korea and Vietnam troops.

Regards,

Bob Bolton

Bob Bolton, I caught a fragment of this on the Drew Carey Show. The verse was sung over and over again. I put out the query for more of the song as perhaps others sing a longer version.

Using google I have come up with a couple of variants:

Variants:

I love to go swimming with bowlegged women and swim between their legs.

I love to go swimming with bare naked women and dive between their legs.

The tune I learned from Drew Carey is the "Blaze Away" march (sound). Yes, the same tune is used for "Isn't it a pitty she's only one titty to feed the baby on."   I am interested in this drinking song's tune because it is not obvious that it is the same for everyone.

If anyone can sing their version into my voicemail at 508.464.6373 or give me a call at 314.381.0492, it is appreciated.

Sincerely,

John Mehlberg

The one I know is a blues/ragtime bit:

I want a bow legged woman, that's all,
I want a bow legged woman that's tall
One that's plump and round just like a big bass fiddle
With plenty of (clap twice, ur 2 rimshots) room in the middle--
I'm on my way
To find a bow legged woman today.

(head from a piano thumper named Don Frye ca 1948)

" I LOVE TO GO SWIMMIN' WITH BOW LEGGED WOMEN

1. The words are: Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh, IIIIIIIIII..............Love to go swimmin' with bow legged women, I do, I do I do.......!
I love to go swimmin' with bow legged women, dont you , dont you , dont you................!

CHORUS: I love to go swimmin'......... I do, I do...... with bow legged women, dont you, dont you.......I love to go swimming with bow legged women I do, I do I dooooo.................!
****OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.......IIIIIIIIIIIIIII................>>>>>

2. Love to go swimmin', with bow legged women and swim between their legs...............! I love to go swimming with bow legged women and swim between their legs...............!

CHORUS: I love to go swimmin'......... I do, I do...... with bow legged women, dont you, dont you.......I love to go swimming with bow legged women I do, I do I dooooo..................!
****OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.......IIIIIIIIIIIIIII................>>>>>

{Now back to verse one (1) and you just keep going until someone want's to hurt you, as you get bawdy and bawdier with the:

as sung by Bull Moose Jackson,
I WANT A BOW-LEGGED WOMAN        BULL MOOSE JACKSON

I WANT A BOW LEGGED WOMAN THAT'S ALL
I WANT A BOW LEGGED WOMAN THAT'S TALL

I'LL FALL IN LOVE WITH HER RIGHT FROM THE START
BECAUSE HER BIG FAT LEGS ARE SO FAR APART
I WANT A BOW LEGGED WOMAN RIGHT NOW

I WANT TO FIND ME A GAL SOMEHOW
SHE'S GOTTA BE BUILT LIKE AN OL' BASS FIDDLE
BIG BOW LEGS AND A HOLE IN THE MIDDLE (BIG BOW LEGS AND PLENTY OF ROOM IN THE MIDDLE)

GOTTA BE ON MY WAY,
TO FIND A BOW LEGGED WOMAN TODAY.

(HE WANTS A BOW LEGGED WOMAN)
YEAH
(HE WANTS A BOW LEGGED WOMAN)
BOY

I'LL FALL IN LOVE WITH HER RIGHT FROM THE START
BECAUSE HER BIG FAT LEGS ARE SO FAR APART

SHE DON'T HAVE TO BE NO GRAMMAR GAL
BUT SHE GOTTA HAVE PEGS LIKE AN OLD HAY BAIL
GOTTA BE ON MY WAY
TO FIND A BOW LEGGED WOMAN TODAY.

I FOUND A BOW LEGGED WOMAN LAST NIGHT
AND MAN SHE WAS REALLY ALRIGHT
SHE HAD —— LICK STRADDLE
WHEN CAME IN THE BATHROOM
I GOT SCARED IN THE SADDLE
YOU COULDN'T HEAR A RATTLE
AND THERE WASN'T NOBODY THERE TO RUN AND TATTLE

GOTTA BE ON MY WAY
TO SEE MY BOW LEGGED WOMAN TODAY
I SAY, MY WOMAN WITH BIG BOW LEGS

Different song, GUEST, from the one in the original post.

I only know these words:

"I love to go swimmin with bow legged wimmin and swim between their knees.
If you know any ladies that want to have babies, then send them down to me.
For this is the day we give away babies with half a pound of cheese..."

My Dad sang:

I love to go swimmin with bow legged women and dive between their knees
The bigger the women the better the swimmin as I dive between their knees.

That is all I remember
