"Adios Mariquita Linda" was sung in the historical film, "La isla de la Pasion (Clipperton)," 1941.
http://cinemexicano.mty.itesm.mx/peliculas/isla_pasion.html

Artie Shaw and his orchestra recorded the song in 1939-1940.

Many mentions of the song, but can't find original date of publication.

May be wrong- can't find for certain if the 1923 date applies.
I should tie me fingers down, I am not a copyright lawyer.

In trying to narrow this down for Artful Codger, I found this in Copyright Circular 38b-

TERMS OF COPYRIGHT
"The copyright in any work in which copyright is restored will last for the remainder of the term of copyright that the work would have enjoyed if the work had never entered the public domain in the United States.
"Generally, the U. S. Copyright terms for works published before January 1, 1978, lasts for 95 years from the year of first publication."

In other words, "Adios Mariquita Linda" would have to have been published before 1913 for it to have entered the public domain.
This is doubtful.

One of a great many songs that had its copyright restored in accordance with the Uruguay Round Agreements Act ("Federal Register" vol. 63 no. 74, Friday April 17, 1998; Notices).
http://www.copyright.gov/fedreg/1998/63fr19287.pdf
One would have to contact the Copyright Office to get data on when the copyright will expire. A couple of websites that had lyrics have a notice of withdrawal of lyrics.

Marcos Jimenez Sotelo died in 1944.
Spanish lyrics here are the same as those given by Sorch: www.radioformula.com.mx/entreten/rf2101.qsp?ID=10269

The song was released in a Mexican film of the same name in 1944 starring Tito Guizar, but this is not when it was composed.
www.imdb.com/title/tt0219470.

First release? Dunno.

Sorry for no links but I have to close.

Do you know when this song was written?

I chanced upon it while watching the movie Only Angels Have Wings (1939), starring Cary Grant. The film is set in South America, and near the end, Manuel Álvarez Maciste sings this lovely song while playing a simple guitar accompaniment. Sadly, other actors are talking over him at the time, but the song is performed complete.

The composer's full name is Marcos Augusto Jiménez Sotelo, and he lived from 1882 to 1944. Since he would have been 40 by 1923, I'm guessing he wrote this song before then (i.e. it may be in the public domain), but I'd like verification. The sites I browsed which provide the lyrics to this song or a biography of Sr Jiménez Sotelo strangely neglect to date the song.

ADIOS, MARIQUITA LINDA

la causa de mis dolores;
el amor de mis amores,
el perfume de mis flores,
para siempre dejaré.

Adiós, Mariquita linda,
ya me voy con el alma entristecida
por la angustia y el dolor;
me voy porque tus desdenes,
sin piedad han herido para siempre,
a mi pobre corazón.
Adiós, mi casita blanca,
la cuna de mis amores,
al mirarte entre las flores,
y al cantarte mis dolores,
te doy mi postrer adiós.

I don't remember Marty Robbins singing this song. Anyway, it is in the albums A Musical Journey to the Caribbean & Mexico (1991) and Bound for Old Mexico (1973). Look at this discography.

Several sites on Yahoo have the original Spanish by Marcos Jimenez. I doubt if Marty Robbins can pronounce them.
