Thanks, all . .

Mary, I look forward to hearing from you (but no rush, as I said, I'm away for a few days . . )

And Graham, I wouldn't flatter myself by claiming to be a software engineer (well, I could write a reasonable FORTRAM programme 25 years ago, and my 6502 Assembler's not bad, but these days that hardly qualifies . . )

Cheers - you folk don't know how comforting you all are!

George

I love it when a Brit says y'all! ;-)

George, I really empathize with the job uncertainty. In one job I was lied to for a complete year about the future of our department, and in another I got the ax very quickly...there is no good way. I'll PM you some info I learned about Internet job boards and telecommuting resources.

Mary

Dunno about technical author, but Pi Technology in Milton (www.pitechnology.com) are always on the lookout for new software engineers...

Graham.

Well I'm just out of the "this is what's happening" meeting and things are less clear than ever . . looks like I'll be around for the next month or so but with nothing to do (except Mudcat!!) - sorry for the false alarm, 'thought it's only a stay of execution (a wind-down rather than a chop, for technical reasons I won't bore you with!)

Thanks for the good wishes, folks . . and Kat, thanks VERY much for the links - which I'll follow up next week.

Now we're off to visit a friend in Lausanne for the next 5 days . . .

G.

Only a couple of weeks ago you said goodbye to me. I ended up staying but cutting a lot of time I spent here out. I realise things are different for you and I hope things work out for you and that if/ when you do lose your connection that you get back on line soon.

Good luck,

Jon

George, I hope you won't be dis-connected for long. If you have the capability, some other way, I saw a ton of technical writer jobs, some offsite, listed at www.monster.com and also there are a lot of telecommuter writing jobs listed at WriterFind, and at Telecomutting Jobs. Most of those are US connected, but WriterFind has an international listing and if you work off-site I don't think it matters, anyway.

Good luck and please come back when you are able...even check in once in awhile form a library?!

ALl the best,

kat

Oh, I should have said . . If anyone's looking for a Technical Author in/near Cambridge UK I'd be very pleased to hear from them . .

But this may be a request that's beyond Mudcat's extensive power!

Thanks for the nice words, too!

G.

Bad luck, mate. Does that mean they'll be shutting you down as well? Maybe we ought to start up a Mudcat job-seeker network?

Steve

Our parent company has decided to shut down its Cambridge UK operation, and with it my Internet connection . . We are assured we will still have connectivity until the end of September, but aren't persuaded of the accuracy of that information!

So if I suddenly disappear - you now know why! But don't cheer too loudly - I'll be back someday, honest. (I'll get the "bad penny" reference in before anyone else.)

Note that the only email address which is still sure to get to me is: chrishawes atonetel dotnet dotuk.

Just remember - if I do disappear I'll be missing y'all!

Regards

George
