Subject: RE: Stolen Guitar From: katlaughing Date: 11 Sep 01 - 10:22 AM Well, I shouldn't have told the guy I was in the States. As it isn't the right one, anyway, I don't feel so badly about not being successful. Here is his reply: Nearly Baby Taylors seem to be readily available in the US, it would not be worth the shipping cost at this price. Good luck, Roz. kat |

Subject: RE: Stolen Guitar From: Lanfranc Date: 10 Sep 01 - 05:40 PM The eBay guitar isn't Roz (White Dove)'s - it's a spruce top in a gigbag. Hers is a mahogany top in a hard case. If she doesn't get hers back, I've offered to sell her mine. It is also a sprucetop, but has the all-important hard case. I hope if I ever lose an instrument, I get this level of interest and sympathy!

Subject: RE: Stolen Guitar From: katlaughing Date: 05 Sep 01 - 12:00 PM Just had another idea: how about placing adverts in newspapers around the area and in the larger cities, i.e. London and pose as a prospective buyer, saying you are looking for s used baby taylor to purchase? It might just sucker the thief into answering, esp. if you say cost is no problem. Unless of course it was a canny thief who already knew how to fence such items. A kid might not know any better, though, and answer? Just a thought:-) kat |

Subject: RE: Stolen Guitar From: katlaughing Date: 03 Sep 01 - 12:26 AM John in Hull, I don't know if this is the site you were thinking of, but it is the first one that came up on google for registreing stolen instruments: Looks like a good spot to list your baby at, Roz. Biskit, thanks, you're welcome. It is lovely, isn't it? ktat |
Subject: RE: Stolen Guitar From: GUEST,chip2447 Date: 03 Sep 01 - 12:21 AM My instruments are special to me, and there is not one of them that comes close to the quality of a TAYLOR. Subject: RE: Stolen Guitar From: Rt Revd Sir jOhn from Hull Date: 02 Sep 01 - 08:04 AM Thats good advice Nick, The Music Room have a website. www.the-music-room.com There is a website where people can register their instruments as stolen, does anybody know what it is called? |
Subject: RE: Stolen Guitar From: GUEST,Raggytash Date: 02 Sep 01 - 04:48 AM Roz we need to keep this thread going for a long time me thinks. The scumbag who stole your baby may just realise he has a real hot potato, however it is unlikely that he knows that a sizable proportion of the folk community is looking out for him. Do you know of any catters in Middlesborough, if that is where it was heading, who could patrol the music and 2nd hand shops over the next 6 months or so. I,ve got some music mates in Bradford checking the shops there this week and I will continue to check round here. One shop not mentioned was the Music Room at Cleckheaton who buy and sell such instruments, maybe worth a call. Raggy |
Subject: RE: Stolen Guitar From: White Dove Date: 01 Sep 01 - 06:28 PM Thanx Weepiper.... I hope mine survives its first encounter....I have called the police several times! Dove |
Subject: RE: Stolen Guitar From: weepiper Date: 01 Sep 01 - 03:55 PM White Dove, that sucks. Thought I might cheer you up with an experience my dad had. In the seventies his car was stolen - bad enough, but his Fylde guitar and a mandolin were inside! Heartbroken, never expected to see them again, but within a day or two the police called to say that the instruments had been found sitting by the side of a road. The thief clearly had no idea what he had so just dumped them and they were found before coming to any harm. The same guitar later survived falling from a height onto a table, bouncing off and landing on a concrete sculpture (which it smashed) and thence to the floor. There's one small dent in the wood to show for this and it was otherwise unscathed. Only seven lives left now! :) |
Subject: RE: Stolen Guitar From: katlaughing Date: 01 Sep 01 - 02:49 PM White Dove, glad to hear the culprits were spotted, at least. I hope that helps in the recovery. Going by what you described, here is a link to the mahagony top Baby Taylors. I am sure most already know what it looks like.:-) Good luck! kat |
Subject: RE: Stolen Guitar From: White Dove Date: 01 Sep 01 - 11:44 AM Lanfranc.......woooow! Yes my 'baby' is insured and yes I am interested. Let me know in private mess how to contact you please. I have been making all kind of enquiries to find mine tho.....it seems that somone was seen taking my guitar from the pub. Apparently one of three youths from Middlesborough. ..appologies if this is only a rumour. So if any mudcatters are passing a second hand store up there selling guitars I would appreciate it if you could take a peek. One new development is I am told that the company that made the Baby Taylor cases has stopped making them and that a year ago the soft backpack case was introduced over here in the UK. This means that the number of Taylors in hard cases in the UK could be significantly fewer than expected! As I mentioned before, the case is very easily identified as a Taylor as it has the large words BABY TAYLOR indented into the neck of the case. The model number is 301-M, serial number for my guitar is 990910309-1. The first 2 digits= 1999, 2nd two 09=September, 3rd pair=10th day, and 09= the 9th guitar to be produced on that day. (( My baby was the 9th to be born on the 9th of the 10th in 1999 ) I learned all this from the Taylor website....also the 300 series were 25th aniversary models. I am not quite sure if this included mine, but there is very little info about the baby taylors that have a mahogany top as mine did. Does this make it fairly rare? I don't know. It would be useful to know ...would it then be easier to spot. All the others I have seen have been in a lighter wood. I know I sound like I am grasping at straws here....gawddddd RATS!!!!!!! To everyone else who has posted here...thankyou, truly :- &*)))****{{{{{{{Skipjack K8 30-Aug-01 11:08 AM Ralphie 30-Aug-01 11:21 AM WYSIWYG 30-Aug-01 11:25 AM Greycap 30-Aug-01 11:25 AM sophocleese 30-Aug-01 12:15 PMClintonHammond 30-Aug-01 12:47 PM GUEST 30-Aug-01 12:59 PM Willie-O 30-Aug-01 02:02 PM GUEST,Raggytash 30-Aug-01 02:09 PM DougR 30-Aug-01 02:12 PM Kim C 30-Aug-01 02:24 PM Don Firth 30-Aug-01 03:36 PM Mrs.Duck 30-Aug-01 03:51 PM SINSULL 30-Aug-01 08:05 PM Biskit 31-Aug-01 01:11 AM Ned Ludd 31-Aug-01 04:28 AM Mark Clark 31-Aug-01 08:58 AM English Jon 31-Aug-01 09:17 AM GUEST 31-Aug-01 10:52 AM GUEST, Paul from Hull 31-Aug-01 11:00 AM GUEST,Roger the skiffler 31-Aug-01 11:06 AM GUEST,AL O'DONNELL DUBLIN 31-Aug-01 11:10 AM MC Fat 31-Aug-01 11:16 AM John J 31-Aug-01 11:20 AM GUEST 31-Aug-01 03:46 PM katlaughing 31-Aug-01 11:28 PM mike putt 01-Sep-01 03:30 AM Steve In Scotland 01-Sep-01 06:49 AM Lanfranc 01-Sep-01 09:27 AM }}}}}}}}}*****)))£$£&& I have bundled you altogether....giving you one BIG xxxxx**((((£$"HUG"%*%**)))xxxxx Kat..the only personal piccy I have is of my boyfriend playing it...unfortunately he may not appreciate this going on the net cos hmmmm he was not err...trust me..not a good idea! Subject: RE: Stolen Guitar From: Lanfranc Date: 01 Sep 01 - 09:27 AM To experience a robbery is to feel violated as well as deprived. There aren't too many Baby Taylors in the UK, so it should be easy to spot. Although I remember Diz Disley having a Macafferi stolen many years ago - a rare and distinctive instrument - and as far as I know he never got it back. Some scumbag has probably still got it in his attic. If it was insured, I have a Baby which I could part with if you want a replacement. It's a bit small for an ogre like me! (It was in Turkey with me on holiday at the time of Whitby, in case anyone was wondering!) PM me if interested. Tough luck, Roz, hope yours turns up. |
Subject: RE: Stolen Guitar From: Steve In Scotland Date: 01 Sep 01 - 06:49 AM White Dove I read this in the Whitby 2001 thread and was gutted. How can anyone steal something so beautiful and personal. Not a lot of hope it turning up here but i will keep an eye out. What about publishing the serial no or by PMs to those who have a good chace of seeing it. Best of luck. Such a nice guitar too. Steve |
Subject: RE: Stolen Guitar From: mike putt Date: 01 Sep 01 - 03:30 AM Hearing about this kind of thing happening totally p****s me off, as has already been said on this thread that instrument will be sold on for a pittance because the b******s who stole it will have no idea of its value and it isnt even the monetary value but all of us who play any kind of an instrument develop almost (In my case definately ) a love affair with it,and for some little scrote to destroy this.Bring back hanging I say White Dove you have my sympathy and I hope it works out ok |
Subject: RE: Stolen Guitar From: katlaughing Date: 31 Aug 01 - 11:28 PM Roz, do you have a picture of it? If so, I'd be happy to put it up on the website of photos I have, including some Mudcatters, so that you could email people and give them an exact idea of what to look for. You could also refer list serves and pub owners, etc. to it. Be sure to check www.ebay.com, too,as they do handle sales from the UK, alhtough anyone who'd put it up there would be really blatant or stupid. Good luck...if Pebbles didn't bury it, maybe she could catch the scent and go from there?*smile* kat

Subject: RE: Stolen Guitar From: GUEST,Raggytash Date: 31 Aug 01 - 07:21 PM Just a refresher to keep this thread going, Roz, did you report it to the police, if you are going to claim on an insurance policy you need a crime number |
Subject: RE: Stolen Guitar From: John J Date: 31 Aug 01 - 11:20 AM A very bad do indeed, made far worse with it happening at Whitby Festival. It goes without saying that I hope you get it back and that the dirty low life who nicked it catches some nasty incurable disease. John |
Subject: RE: Stolen Guitar From: Rt Revd Sir jOhn from Hull Date: 31 Aug 01 - 11:16 AM I hope you get your guitar back, it could be worth cantacting Pools Corner and similar shops, I hope it turns up.john |
Subject: RE: Stolen Guitar From: MC Fat Date: 31 Aug 01 - 11:16 AM On a slightly serious note Roz perhaps a phone call to Malcolm (or maybe somebody better and with better communication skills) from the Festival Committee might help. I recall someone telling me that a few years ago there was a spate of instrument thefts at Whitby and always when one person seemed to be around. They couldn't prove it was him but...? Perhaps he's back. |
Subject: RE: Stolen Guitar From: GUEST,AL O'DONNELL DUBLIN Date: 31 Aug 01 - 11:10 AM Hard hard luck indeed. There are a number of professional slithereens who specialise in this area of theft. I remember, a couple of years back, at a festival in Amsterdam, the organisers were so concerned about this, that all musicians checked their instruments into a compound, retrieved them to perform, and checked them back in afterwards. There had obviously been a series of previous robberies. It is always vital to have someone watch your stuff, even if you just go to the bar for a pint. At least one hopeful point is that email communication can alert people to watch out for your instrument. We'll all do just that, and maybe get it back for you. Good Luck, Al. |
Subject: RE: Stolen Guitar From: GUEST,Roger the skiffler Date: 31 Aug 01 - 11:06 AM Must have been a yachtie? Damn bad luck, any way. Maybe Blofeld has tired of his Rick Fielding Collection of stolen instruments and is opening a new wing at his secret hideout. Pebbles didn't take it to bury I hope? RtS (one advantage of playing kazoo, no-one wants 'em, no value either) |
