Subject: LYR REQ: Has anyone heard... From: Date: 26 Jan 98 - 11:56 PM I recall hearing a song on the radio, probably in the the early to mid 70's -- which no one else I know seems to remember. I seem to recall it being sung by a male accompanied by an acoustic guitar and little (if anything) else, I think. The verses were in English, bits and pieces of which I remember and I believe this is (roughly) the first verse: ? ? Mr. Moon flew away in the night With his best friend Magnus(?) right by his side They flew through the milky way counting the stars Once around Venus, twice around Mars. The chorus was in French, which I do NOT know, so I won't attempt to mangle it too badly here. I want to say it involves something about "les petites enfants" as a rhymed couplet with "tout le monde", but I could just be completely insane. (I was very young at the time I heard it and my friends all think I made it up when I sing it to them in the hopes of jogging a memory!) As always, any help is mucho appreciado! (And yes, I posted this before but kind of buried it in a nother thread. Jinkies!!) |

Subject: Lyr Add: CHANSON POUR LES PETITS ENFANTS (Buffett) From: Wolfgang Hell Date: 27 Jan 98 - 06:03 AM I think you'll find below what you are looking for. It'll look kind of scrambled due the copy and paste. If you want to have it unscrambled go and have a look at the site where I found it. Wolfgang CHANSON POUR LES PETITS ENFANTS [Song for the little children] By: Jimmy Buffett 1979 Now young Mister Moon flew away in the night With his best friend Magnus right by his side They soared through the Milky Way counting the stars Once around Venus twice around Mars Then they spied an island rise out of the sea They fell back to Earth just as free as you please The children all gathered the church bells did ring Suddenly everyone started to sing CHORUS: Chanson pour les petits enfants Chanson pour tout le monde Chanson pour les petits enfants Chanson pour tout le monde Queen of the island she welcomed them in Asking 'em questions of where they had been She offered 'em chocolate she offered them tea They all took their seats in the top of a tree And raccoons brought wine and the mice they brought cheese Beautiful birds floated by on the breeze From out in the oceans the dolphins began Humming a tune that soon covered the land. CHORUS So young Princess Leia brought coral and pearls Gifts to the travelers from some other world The bush doctor mixed up a magical spell Swore them to secrecy never to tell So young Mister Moon flew away in the night With his best friend Magnus still right by his side The sun was just rising, they'd be home by noon Humming the words to this magical tune. CHORUS TWICE |

Subject: RE: LYR REQ: Has anyone heard... From: Wolfgang Date: 27 Jan 98 - 07:24 AM Elektra, you even can listen to it to refresh your really excellent memory (or play it to your unbelieving friends), if you go this place. |

Subject: RE: LYR REQ: Has anyone heard... From: Elektra@gate.net Date: 27 Jan 98 - 06:31 PM Wolfgang, you ROCK!!! :) I have been a Jimmy fan for years, albeit not a rabid one, though I DID see him in concert a few years ago. I can not even BELIEVE no one has told me this before now. WooHOO!!! You have made my MONTH!! Go raibh mile maith agat! Mil gracias!!!
It just goes to show how subjective time is. I thought I was 6 or 7 when I heard it but I guess I must have been nine. (Born in '70, dontcha know.) Strange feeling to hear a half-remembered song after nearly twenty years. Vindicating, though. |

Subject: RE: LYR REQ: Has anyone heard... From: Sheye Date: 27 Jan 98 - 08:44 PM Elektra: Same thing happened to me with Mr. Puffenstuff. Whenever I'd ask my peers if they remembered the theme song, or the name of the show (I have an extremely poor memory), they'd start lookin' at each other to see if anyone had remembered the straight-jacket. Years passed before I finally met someone who not only remembered the show, but knew the song. ...Still got friends thinkin' I'd look good in a straight- jacket, though! |
