Hi Bromyard organisers! I haven't received my tickets or esoteric bits of paper entitling me to tickets yet. Even though I sent my request to you a while ago. Should I be worried?

I'd love to go to Bromyard (haven't been for 9 years), but I've just done 4 festivals in 4 weeks and think I have to go back to the world of w**k for a while. At least I have the chance to see Dan McKinnon at Herga on the Monday after.

Info please from those who know... are there fringe events to get involved in? Translation: I can't afford to pay for a weekend ticket as I've spent up my decade's festival allowance... :0)...is it still worth going? I'm getting withdrawal symptoms.

Noreen, There are usually morris diplays in the town on Saturday and Sunday. Plus there's informal sessions/sings in most of the pubs all weekend. You can have quite a good weekend without ever going onto the Festival site.

But, Noreen, you will need somewhere to sleep - I don't know of an off-festival site camping site. Perhaps someone else does ... But you may have a camper van of course.

I'm surprised you go to the Rose & Lion, Whippet - it's usually full of us crap morris dancers. (But then so are all the other pubs, and the R&L has bostin' Wye Valley ales).

LIFT FOR ROD SHEARMAN'S SISTER

Those attending Towersey FF will know that Rod Shearman's ashes were scattered along the road from the festival site to the Barn at the Three Horseshoes where he enjoyed singing. It was therefore a very emotional weekend and one I shall always remember. I know that many Mudcatters attended.

His sister Greta Alexander was one of his relatives who attended and it was her first folk festival. She enjoyed it so much that she also plans to come to Bromyard FF. As she is not online, my reason for making this posting is to ask for a lift for her from Herne Hill in South East London where she lives. Alternatively, if that is not possible, she says that she can get a train to Worcester, arriving around the Friday lunchtime/early afternoon. (I would give her a lift from there myself but I will already be at Bromyard by mid morning).

Please can someone help? Her telephone numbers are 020 7274 6638 (home) and 020 7277 1374 (work). Thanks!

"Here's to the friends that I've yet to make ...!"

PS I've duplicated this posting on the Towersey FF 2001 thread.

I had an important event to go to on the Saturday Night and I could not let certain people down. Now the event is canceled and I can go to Bromyard Hurrah!

1)Where is the best unaccompanied Sing Session 2)Whats the earliest we can put our tents up 3)Most importantly -Whats the beer like?.

Don't know about unnacompanied but in my opinion The Rose and Lion has the best beer (Wye Valley)and has good sessions in the bar and in the barn where there is a bar. Contact Dick Dixon on 07831 890905 or from Fri 21st at the Festival Office on 01531 670593 about when you can put tents up from past year's I think from about midday.

Cllr, I'll be there... wasn't it Liz's falling tent pole I hit you with?! The poles in my tent are of the bendy variety, so they're not likely to fall on you, more likely to give a whiplash injury if you get in the way... :0)

Looking forward to more singing, dancing and merriment, with friends met and unmet.

Its always nice to meet up and sing with good friends. I enjoyed that most of all but I also enjoyed:-
the morris dancing (particularly as it was the first time my son had danced with us for at least a year);
the singing in the Hop Pole on Sat and Sun during the day, along with a local group "Compost Heap" (after the two tubas had been persuaded to leave!);
a nice barbeque hosted by Derek and Mary Droscher (who run Banbury Folk Club); and
the very late night (drunken!) singing in the food tent.

"I thought I heard the old man say ...!"
Alan
PS I am too modest to mention the Shanty Competition ...

Well Gervase, it was sort of like this ... errrr, hmmmm, errrr, well I suppose, well I took a some breaks from the morris dancing and I errrr wandered into two shanty sessions run by Johnny Collins and Jim Mageean - without realising it was a competition - and I sang Lowlands Away in the first and John Kanaka in the second and well I errrr sort of errrr - won it!

Looking forward to Bromyard 2002!
See you all there? - Oh, and well done Alan shanteymaster!Mucho applause!
