To Whom It May Concern, I am looking for the lyrics to a song that I believe is titled "One More Day". So far I have found several one more day songs, but not the one I want. The one I want has the lyrics: "One more day, one more day, one day older and closer to my Lord, one more day. Well, I'm up every mornin' with the risin' sun, workin' all day til my workins' done, one more day..." Can you help me? Thanks, Dave

This was a song sung in the film Jailhouse Rock by the guy who shared a cell with Elvis Presley, called, I think, Hunk or somesuch. I suspect, but don't know, that it was written for the film - I've never seen or heard it anywhere else in the last 40 years. Nice song though. Can't remember any more of the lyrics.

Cheers
Ray

You can view the entire film "Jailhouse Rock" at YouTube, where it is split into 9 parts. Unfortunately, the song is split between the last 45 seconds of Part 1 and the first 35 seconds of
Part 2. Here's my transcription. The credits are from IMDB.com:

ONE MORE DAY
Written by Sid Tepper & Roy C. Bennett.
As sung by Mickey Shaughnessy, in the role of Hunk Houghton, in the film "Jailhouse Rock" (1957)

1. I'm up in the mornin' with the risin' sun.
I work like a slave till the day is done,
Just workin' an' sleepin' an' nothin' more,
And ev'ry day is just like the day before.

CHORUS: One more day,
One more day,
One day older and nearer to my Lord,
One more day.

2. Listen to the prayer of a lonely man,
Livin' day to day the best he can.
Give me the strength to carry my load.
Glory waits for me at the end of the road. CHORUS

The Lyrics can be found on the soundtrack from Jailhouse Rock with Elvis Presley.

Just stumbled on the movie at about the time Elvis' cellmate started singing the song. Song gave me so much hope at a depressed moment, whe when my father in law and mentor had just gone to be with the Lord. Thanks for the lyrics. God bless you
