I've just been to listen to Lee Collinson at the Harbour Sessions, Southwick, Sussex.

wwww.leecollinson.co.uk

He was new to me - which shows my woeful ignorance - but The man is GREAT and just listening to his CD "Slip the Driver a Fiver" which is fabulous - stunning guitarwork. Go and see this man or at least listen to his album

Sorry - just had to say that....

Cheers,

Hille

Yes Lee is great...and a good friend. I would recommend anyone who likes BRILLIANT guitar playing and great singing as well to go and see him. Tell him Richard in Brussels sent you!

P.S. I get a mention on "Slip the Driver a Fiver" under "Lord Mayor's March" (that was a misprint on the sleeve...it should have said "Lord Mayo's March"!).

Now Lee...about that fiver...

Just reading the sleeve notes again and will listen to that again in a moment..mandocello playing, eh?

Lee is a really nice bloke and it was a rare pleasure of a folk club to hear his set..hopefully,he will feel moved to make his way down to Worthing sometime (Friday night) even to our club and spread his reputation even further - as it deserves to be.

But, Mooman you really should be commended for your skills if you can inspire someone like Lee!!

Cheers, Hille

Thanks Hille! I enjoyed teaching Lee that tune and he picked it up in double quick time!

Lee doesn't live too far from your club, perhaps 3/4 hour's drive...so I'll have a word in his ear! How's the club going by the way? I used to run Dorking Folk Club for a few years before I came over to Belgium. Strangely enough, it used to be held in the bar and social club at Dorking Hospital, exactly where Lee was born! We never tired of reminding him whenever he played at the club by announcing "Now a great player who hails from...wel...upstairs!"

Hi, Mooman.

Oooh, a word in Lee's ear would be great (remind him I gave him a free entry flyer).

The club is going great. We started in April and average 50-70 audience every month. We have an wide range of acoustic musicians and styles show-cased: Acappella to yodelling in fact. The thing people always remark on is the good atmosphere - we have very responsive audiences. The other good things is that musicians are joining up and doing side projects together. Which is what I always wanted - there hasn't been a "folk" clubfor 25 years in Worthing or any thing like that for musicians to get together at.

We produce a newsletter - which I'd be happy to send you, I also try and list as much of what else is going on in the music scene and generally promote the other clubs and any gigs "our" musicians are playing.

We seem to be gaining a reputation - in fact I've had a journalist on the phone today from a national publication.

The thing we'd like to get more of is some money to pay people with! - only breaking even at the moment - so, tonight that popular event the RAFFLE is being introduced. (It's downhill all the way now then :)

Regards, Hille

Dear Hille,

That's a pretty good regular turnout for a club these days.

I hope it continues to go well and wish you all the very best with it. Certainly if I'm visiting the UK, which I do occasionally, I'll try to get down for a visit (and persuade Lee too as well) and maybe do a spot if there's space.

Yes..I'd be interested in receiving info. As you're a guest I can't PM you with details but my email is

mcmoo@mcmoo.com

All the best

mooman
