I heard it on the radio!
thw World Cup in Korea/Japan has been cancelled.
FIFA President Serge Blatta has confirmed that Japan have pulled the carpet from the World Cup; they say that since England are "obviously" goint to win, there's no point in holding the tournament at all.
The Japanese government are not unpleased with the loss of revenue from the cancelled event; a senoir official said "The money we save from policing the England games will more than compensate us."

(OK, I'm a Scot and a little pissed off after last night's performance, but at least I'm not bitter........RIGHT!)

Relax guys! Full text is flying round as an e-mail:

(Reuters) -FIFA President Sepp Blatter has today sensationallyannounced that the World Cup finals due to be held in Japan and South Korea next year have in fact been cancelled.

The decision was taken shortly after England's 5-1 demolition of Germany in Munich on Saturday night. "We have taken the unprecedented step of crowning the winners before the tournament has even started" Blatter stated.

It seems the English press have played a major part in the episode.

Blatter continued: "The English press are convinced now that England going on to win the tournament is merely a formality and we have decided to save all the other teams the trouble of going over and competing."

The news has been met with mixed reaction. Brazil, France and Argentina are said to be disappointed by the news as they believed they also were in with a decent chance of winning footballs biggest prize.

But the claim has been shrugged off by ex-England boss Kevin Keegan, who admitted: "France may be without doubt the best team in the world but we are far stronger".

Both the Japanese and South Korean governments are said to be pleased that the tournament has been postponed.

Hay A Sook, the Korean Home Affairs Minister, was quick to point out that the money set aside to combat the hooligan element of the English support could now be diverted to other areas.

"With the money saved we can now afford to build 9784 new schools and 763 new hospitals" he said.

Blatter however would not be drawn on rumours that the 2004 European Championships and the 2006 World Cup will also now be shelved and instead be awarded to England.

Meanwhile, the Scottish Football Association has announced that all matches to be held this weekend will be marked with a minute's silence.

Mrrzy. It's a hoax. You probably didn't catch the football nuances in the original post.

This was broadcast on Talksport last night, I currently have an ante post bet on France to win, (6/1 Corals) I hope my stake is returned if The World Cup is cancelled!

Now if it could be the Olympics, that would indeed be fun.

For an international games event that I think sounds a lot more appealing, click here for the Island Games, held in the Isle of Man in July - and noone seems to have even mentioned them in the mainstream media in England.

All I can say to England is, you'd better watch out for Costa Rica...! (I say that, of course, because they just shut out the powerful US team--and I think their hooligans (juliganos?) may rival yours.)

And how many people actually took this very clever joke seriously? (I'm referring to the World Cup "cancellation", of course. My post is no more serious, but not that clever)

Aloha,
Mark

For all those wondering what is being discussed you can check out this site.

Personally I want to see if Portugal plays with the same gorgeous goalie that played in Euro 2000. Unfortuneately in this country and this part of the country I cannot watch many of the matches as they are not broadcast on any channels. Naturally, because I have a whole world of choice, I can watch either, Tennis, Golf, Tennis, Baseball, Tennis, Extreme Sports or Tennis instead.

gee, I hope the International Curling Championships aren't in danger!...or the Tiddley-Winks Games!!..

(lordy...some hoaxes are too silly to contemplate. If the World Cup had really been cancelled, you could see the glow as Brazil melts down into a wrathful puddle all the way to Picadilly Circus!....)
