goddam. English-speaking people have been quick on the draw with curses since earliest times. So often did the English in medieval times take the Lord's name in vain, for example, that the French called them goddams.
Later, in the American Southeast, Indians gave the Anglos the same name for the same reason. Cape Cod fishermen of Portuguese descent often bestowed nicknames on each other and used the nicknames so consistently that they virtually replaced the surnames of the families concerned after several generations.

"One day, one hour of repentance, is all you need to earn eternal bliss – so why bother to rise at the sound of the bell when you could go on sleeping? I do, however, admit to a certain fondness for Star Trek. The original show was far more imaginative than its competition...for the 60's...and the Next Generation edition was a superb show which presented the only truly just and sensible social order I've ever seen presented on North American television... No money, full employment, equality of opportunity, free education at all levels, no commercial advertising, no friggin' political parties (but elected officials, yes!), an equal standard of living for all federation citizens (and a good one!), free medical care for all, no life insurance cos who needs it in a system like that...
