No, Genie... that is a link to where it is somewhere online, but you see, sites tend to come and go, and when someone else wants it again in the future, that may no longer be a working link-- another good song lost back to obscurity.

So what we try to do is post them in the thread, because we are pretty sure (given its track record) that Mudcat will still be here for years to come. And if the lyrics are not posted, they usually don't get into the Digital Tradition database, either.

Usually, the person who posts the link will take the time to post the whole song. But lately a lot of the most active searchers have been researching and indexing past threads. So if the person who requests it can do the post, it benefits everyone. And it is something we all do to help each other when we can.

Right now, to post a song you have to put in the line breaks by hand, and the HTML coding to do that is in the FAQ. Soon Max says we will have them put in automatically as we compose posts. But for now, everything you need to know to post the lyrics for what you request, is in the FAQ.

This would be a great one to try your hand at. Don't worry about messing it up. It takes practice, and someone will fix it if you make mistakes.

~Susan

Sorry, WYSIWIG,

I misunderstood you. I thought you wanted the link to the Boy Scout Songbook. [I had scrolled down and had gone to that site and back and forgot that I had not posted the lyrics. Here they are:

Run River Run

If you've been thinking you're all that you've got
Then don't feel alone any more
'Cause when we're together then we've got a lot
For I am the river and you are the shore

chorus:
And it goes on and on
Watching the river run
Further and Further from things that we've done
Leaving us one by one
And we have just begun
Watching the river run
Listening and learning and yearning, run river run

Winding and twirling and dancing along, down by the old willow tree
Where lovers caress as we sing them our song,
For we'll be together when we reach the sea.

ch (2x)

listening and learning and yearning, run river run.

Genie, that's great! Until you learn how to code line breaks (or Max automates them), we'll be glad to add them for you. ALso, it helps the harvesters to change the subject line, using the word ADD. (See my post's subject line?)

Great to have you here-- I love the stuff you request!

Susan (WYSIWYG),
re: line breaks and Mac, the problem I have with just typing the brackets with "br" in them is that when I do it directly in Mudcat or within MS Word, it doesn't get read on the internet as a break. If I translate it into HTML first or if I copy and past a HTML file onto a Word file or note pad or something, then I can copy the "br" within the brackets (arrows) and paste it here and it works.
Within Word, at least on Mac, the symbol for a line break is bent arrow, not the "br" with the arrows around it.
If anyone else is having trouble with those breaks, the cut (from, say, an email that you are composing) and paste (say, into a simple text file) gives you a break symbol that you can then cut and paste here at Mudcat.
Genie

John Hardly,
Thanks for posting the chords.

and it is written by and copyright
Ken Loggins and Jim Messina

Thanks for the authorship, title, and copyright info, folks.

Susan, I know it seems odd, and it is rather cumbersome, but it's the only way I have discovered so far to put in breaks.
Then, again, there are a lot of things about Word, and about computers in general that I don't know. That is, there are a lot of commands and procedures I have never tried to use or have not mastered. There may be a much simpler way that I don't know about.

Here goes a test to see if just plain typing in Simple Text works:

OK, I've found an easier way. Type the entry in Simple Text and just type the "br' between the arrows, then cut and paste here, and it works as a line break. No need to use HTML.

(Just a note to potential harvestors-- see corrected title and source info above.)

Genie, that's great. If you look at the FAQ thread, it talks about doing it as a Find and Replace. I think Word for Mac has that too.

Thanks for persisting!

Just adding a post with the correct song title in the Subject box, so if someone searches for "Watching The River Run," they'll be directed to this thread
